Genshin Impact Version 5.0 debuts a new region to explore, the nation of Pyro, Natlan. This Genshin Impact Natlan exploration guide will explain how to find your way around the new exploration methods introduced in Natlan.

Genshin Impact Natlan Exploration: Saurians

The very first thing all Travelers will encounter in Natlan is the feature called “Saurian Indwelling”. It allows them to turn into Natlan Saurians and use different skills to assist them in traveling Natlan. There are three types of Saurians, which will be discussed later.

Travelers can identify an adult Saurian enemy, even if it is attacking or just hanging around. However, it will respawn at its original location after 1 minute, even if the player is still indwelling the original spawn.

Spiritsconces can also be found across Natlan, and adult Saurians leave one behind after being killed as enemies. Both naturally occurring Spiritsconces and ones left behind after killing Saurians respawn at their original location after 15 seconds, even if the player is still indwelling a Saurian using the original spawn.

A Spiritsconce is also left behind after you exit indwelling without killing the Saurian. You can indwell it again. Spiritsconces can be activated from a rather significant distance and you will appear at its location if you transform from a distance.

Saurian’s movement is limited by terrain

  • Tepetlisaurus and Yumkasaurus cannot swim on the water, will automatically drown upon being forced to swim, and will take rapid damage from Liquid Phlogiston.
  • Yumkasaurus cannot climb up the terrain for too long while.
  • Koholasaurus cannot climb at all.

The amount of fall DMG taken, while in Saurian form is significantly reduced and fixed regardless of how far they fall. Yumkasauri also takes 50% reduced Fall DMG compared to other Saurians.

There is no time limit to indwelling a Saurian. Every Saurian has its own Phlogiston bar, which it consumes to perform actions such as movement. After its own Phlogiston bar is depleted, it begins consuming the player’s Phlogiston bar. The player’s Phlogiston bar can be replenished in many ways, which will be discussed later.

1. Tepetlisaurus

Tepetlisaurus resembles Geo Vishaps seen in Liyue. Their primary ability is to burrow underground and move without being stuck on anything. They can move through just about any kind of terrain. They can also climb up walls. They can jump to temporarily get out of the ground.

They can also jump while climbing up or down a wall and re-enter the ground. All of this consumes Phlogiston. Tepetlisaurus’s abilities are kind of similar to Kachina’s. They can attack while above ground. Their attacks do Geo DMG. They can also break certain objects by passing through them while underground.

2. Yumkasaurus

Their primary ability is to create grapples. While on the ground or in mid-air, you can press the button to create a grapple forward. Holding the button allows you to aim. While aiming on the ground, you can walk around, while aiming in mid-air, you are temporarily suspended. You can also grab onto hooks required for certain puzzles. Yumkasaurus‘s abilities are kind of like Kinich’s.

One can also hold onto Flamegranate and shoot it using the grappling ability. Other than that, you can normally attack (up to twice on the ground, only once in the air) which does Dendro DMG.

3. Koholasaurus

Their primary ability is swimming and sprinting in water and liquid Phlogiston (basically lava). They can also jump out while swimming.

They can do dash attacks which do Hydro DMG on land, in water, and mid-air.

Genshin Impact Natlan Exploration: Phlogiston

Phlogiston is a mechanic unique to Natlan. It is an advanced form of Pyro that is used in combat, in exploration, and as an energy source. While entering Natlan, your own Phlogiston bar is filled. It gets depleted while performing certain character/Saurian actions.

With the new Natlan region, we have broken down Phlogiston and Nightsoul which are the new gameplay mechanisms for the region. It can be replenished by collecting/destroying certain objects in the overworld. Teleport waypoints and Statues of the Seven also replenish this bar.

Genshin Impact Natlan Exploration: Miscellaneous

1. Coilgrass Sigil

You can sometimes find these symbols, which resemble coiled grass, in Natlan. The Scions of the Canopy, who are skilled in the use of grappling hooks, and Yumkasaurs can use them to move around speedily.

You can even find specially-colored Coilgrass Sigil that, after being activated, can create a Leaf of Repose on which you can temporarily rest your feet.2.

2. Iridescent Beam

A fissure formed by solid Phlogiston. Enter them, and you can swiftly reach the exit on the other end.
However, only Tepetlisaurs and Children of Echoes who understand their internal structure can use these freely.

5. Monetoo

These strange spirits are said to have been born from ancient graffiti. These are Natlan’s equivalent of Seelies. You can use Phlogiston to awaken them from slumber, and if you follow them and aid them in finding the place they are looking for, you will receive rewards.

6. Nightsoul Totem

Strange obsidian totems are scattered across the nation, and touching these totems will send the player to the Night Kingdom for a combat trial. In the trial, you have to fight Natlan Local Legends with specific effects. The effects tell you how to defeat it. You can cancel the trial change your team and enter again.

7. Spiritway

Spiritway is an exploration mechanic in Natlan. They can be ridden on and move swiftly in the flow’s direction using the Koholasaurus and People of the Springs ability. This is mainly used for puzzle-solving.
