GodLike Esports to play in PMGC 2021 after top 3 teams of BGIS fail to meet the eligibility criteria

Winners Skylightz Gaming have missed out on this golden opportunity!

Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2021, the first-ever tournament of the game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has just concluded on the 16th of January, 2022. Skylightz Gaming has won the tournament, followed by Team Solo Mid aka TSM and Esports XO respectively. On the very next day, the Indian gaming community has been buzzing, as it was revealed that Skylightz gaming will not be able to participate in PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021, due to the failure of providing necessary documents for travelling to Dubai. As per rules, the next-placed team was supposed to go to PMGC. But, in this case, both the 2nd and 3rd-placed team was also, unfortunately, unable to meet the eligibility criteria. GamingonPhone has received updates from trusted and reliable sources that Godlike Esports will now travel to Dubai for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021, despite finishing 4th in the overall point table.

PMGC will feature the best 16 teams across the world fighting for a total prize pool of $3.5 Million USD. It is starting from the 21st of January, 2022. Teams will not only fight for the massive amount of prize money but also wear the crown of the glorious champions in the PUBG Mobile Esports scene. Here are the Top 5 teams to check out for, from the tournament.

Exit of Skylightz from PMGC 2021: How it happened

As mentioned earlier, it was clear that Skylightz gaming, the champions of BGIS was going to Dubai to play in the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021. On the next day of the BGIS finals, it was revealed that two of the players from the SG main line-up did not have passports and vaccination certificates, because they were underage. The same passport issue happened with some players of TSM and Team XO too. According to the official rules, the next placed team in the overall point table will go to play PMGC.

It is a big tragedy that these players who had worked so hard and played so well in the tournament were not able to represent their country on the global stage. The organisations should have made sure that their passports and other necessary processes should have been taken care of earlier, to make way for these boys to fulfil their dreams. But, people from India should support GodLike Esports as they will take the mantle from Skylightz to make a mark at the World Championship.

Actual rules

The official rulebook states that the champions of the BGIS 2021 must fulfil the following conditions to claim the invite for PMGC:

  1. All players of the winning team must have a valid passport with 6 months validity. Passports to be provided before 23:00 IST on the 16th of January, 2022. (Players of the iQOO BGIS Grand Finals line-up).

According to the replacement rulebook, if the below conditions are true, the invite would be given to the team with the next best position:

It must be noted that the above conditions are for the current line-ups who had participated in BGIS Grand Finals. As mentioned, TSM and XO had the chance to represent India on the global stage. But, they missed out due to problems with their passport. The team of GodLike Esports was ready and they utilised chance very easily. They will be joined by one of the players, Ocean Sharma as the analyst and one of the members from the Saumraj, who is one of the members of the Skylightz Gaming roster, who won the tournament.
