- Players are frustrated with Honkai: Star Rail’s declining event quality, arguing that Hoyoverse is getting lazy while defending the game’s stagnation.
- Many believe the content drought has existed since early versions, but criticism was often shut down by die-hard fans unwilling to acknowledge the issue.
- Fans want more engaging events with lasting impact, better character interactions, and fresh locations instead of repetitive, forgettable mini-games.
Lately, there’s been a growing sentiment among Honkai: Star Rail players that the game’s churning out lazy and lackluster events. The fan community is buzzing with discussions about the game’s event quality, as a recent Reddit post has sparked intense debate. Some players accuse HoYoverse of growing complacent, while others argue that the game has maintained its status quo since launch.
I can’t help but agree with some of the criticisms; something is missing in recent patches, and it’s hard to ignore.
The Core Argument: Quantity vs. Quality Decline
Recently, a post from the r/HonkaiStarRail subreddit by user ‘Zaikahal‘ has gone viral. They created a comprehensive post pointing out how the devs of HSR are being lazy with the quality of Events that we get. They state that while the number of events hasn’t decreased, their quality has taken a nosedive.
OP claims that the events feel repetitive and uninspired, with the Divergent Universe game mode being a prime example. They argue that calling Divergent Universe an “event” is misleading since most players treat it as a weekly chore rather than engaging content.
Even though we’ve had some solid events in the past, like the Belobog museum event, when was the last time an event felt truly immersive or rewarding? It seems like Hoyoverse is comfortable keeping things on autopilot, and players are noticing.
Another argument is that HSR is designed to be a “side game.” Some players defend the lack of content, saying it’s meant to be a low-commitment game that respects our time. But I, as well as many of the commentators in the posts, don’t buy that.
If HSR is a side game, why does it have such a strong monetization model? Why do players invest time and money into it? Many people want it to be more than just a quick daily log-in routine, and Hoyoverse should cater to that audience as well.

Some fans also point out that Genshin and ZZZ receive far more substantial events, even during major story updates. ZZZ’s recent patches, for example, have managed to pack in character interactions, limited-time mechanics, and event-exclusive combat modes.
Meanwhile, HSR’s events feel uninspired and repetitive. And let’s not even get started on the second half of patches, which often feel completely barren aside from check-in rewards.
Community Reactions: Agreement and Pushback
That said, not everyone agrees with the idea that HSR’s event quality is in decline. Some argue that it’s not about quantity but about the quality of what we get. Slapping together generic, recycled events isn’t exactly the solution either.
I’d agree with this to an extent, I’d rather have fewer, high-quality events than a flood of forgettable ones. But the problem is, we’re getting neither right now. Then there’s the idea that Hoyoverse is “saving” content for a big anniversary update. This has been a running theory for a while now, and honestly.
People said the same thing about earlier patches, yet here we are, still waiting for that supposed “big” event that justifies all these underwhelming updates. If Hoyoverse is truly working on something major, they need to give players a reason to stay engaged in the meantime.
So is HoYovers’ Criticism justified
At the end of the day, HSR is still a great game, but it’s hard not to feel like it could be so much more. Whether the devs are stretched thin or simply prioritizing other projects, players deserve better than auto-play grind-fests and forgettable mini-games. If Hoyoverse wants to keep people invested, they need to step up their event design, because right now, a lot of us are feeling the burnout.
