Shanghai’s Xuhul’s District’s Bureau of Culture and Tourism, has now offered government subsidies to 40 projects being developed by organizations involved in creative work. The list contains subsidies for over four video game titles that are currently in development including HoYoverse’s Honkai: Star Rail.
Honkai Star Rail is now getting a push from the Chinese Government
HoYoverse, also known as miHoYo, the studio behind titles like Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, and more, also happens to have a game on this list and that is Honkai: Star Rail, their space sci-fi in a universe full of myths and legends, where players travel on the Astral Express through planets in a combat RPG with a turn-based fighting system. The game also had its second closed beta a while ago and we got a look at it during the Summer Games Fest 2022 alongside Zenless Zone Zero.
Although so far we’ve not seen the greatest push in gaming by the Chinese State, quite the opposite in fact through slower game approvals and rather extreme restrictions despite China being responsible for a rather sizable chunk of the player base for videogames on and off the mobile.
This seems like a step in a different and possibly better direction as supporting game developers certainly is beneficial to gaming. It is yet to be seen though whether this is a move that will grow into a serious show of support for the creative industry and if the government might finally be making a push in gaming. That being said, with the added support of government subsidies, the effect on the game should obviously be on the positive end and we should hear more about Honkai: Star Rail soon.
