In My Talking Tom 2, the backyard is no longer just a background, and that changes everything

Story Highlights
  • Explore Tom's fully connected backyard with five themed activity zones.
  • Interact with pets, playground challenges, flights, and chill activities.
  • Cook burgers and pancakes with fun, experimental cooking mechanics.

Did you ever imagine that our beloved Talking Tom’s backyard was no longer just a background you tapped on, but an actual virtual world you could walk around and explore with him? Sounds so dreamy, right? But what if I tell you, the developers at Outfit7 have actually got hold of our dream and made it a reality?

What used to be little more than a static backdrop in My Talking Tom 2 has quietly become one of its most meaningful spaces. With its latest update, Tom’s backyard is no longer something you simply tap through. Now, it’s a place you move within, explore, and interact with in ways that fundamentally change how the game feels moment to moment. It’s a subtle shift on paper, but in practice, it redefines the rhythm of play.

The fun of guiding Talking Tom through connected gameplay zones

As I mentioned, this new update transforms Tom’s backyard into one large connected playground where everything now exists together. Instead of jumping between menus and isolated activities, you can now guide Tom freely around the environment, moving from one area to another in real time.

This is also structured into themed zones, which carry their own entry points. The new zoomed-out perspective makes the whole space feel much bigger too, letting you see the entire backyard at once while Tom runs around interacting with everything inside it.

As you move around, Tom’s pets roam freely through the different areas instead of waiting in fixed locations. They react to nearby activities, follow interactions, and make the world feel more active, so the entire backyard coming into play is a huge change, and a welcome one.

Now, digging deeper, the activities are multiple because of how this has been divided into themed sections. We currently have five areas: Cooking, Flight, Pet, Chill, and Playground areas.

You can head over to the Cooking Area and start preparing burgers or pancakes through more hands-on interactions, which I will explain more about in the later sections, or wander into the Flight Area where activities like the Plane Editor and Sky Race are waiting.

The Pet Area focuses more on caring for Tom’s companions and interacting with their nests, while the Chill Area slows things down with cinema watching, gaming consoles, and even a performance corner for funny skits. Then there’s the Playground Area, which is centered around interactive backyard challenges.

From basketball and trampolines to swings, drums, and boxing bag challenges, the whole place feels designed to encourage pick-up-and-play movements around the backyard and bring in some extra energy to your experience.

Test your cooking expertise with the all-new Cooking system

Now, the Cooking Area definitely deserves a little extra attention this time, because it alone makes this backyard change worthwhile to explore. So if you are kind of new to cooking, maybe this is the right place to start, but Tom might not like those burnt burgers, so you might need to be extra careful.

You can cook either burgers or pancakes, which will be your two core cooking experiences. You don’t need to follow the exact same recipe, though; there is freedom to experiment and intentionally mess things up just to see what happens.

You can overcook food, combine strange ingredients, or create completely chaotic meals, if you’d like to call them that, and the reactions from Tom and the pets make the whole thing feel much more playful.

In the words of Outfit7, “Cooking becomes less about getting it right, and more about seeing what happens when you don’t.” Sometimes it might be excellent, sometimes it might not. But nobody’s going to point fingers at you for it. Well, Tom won’t either, because he’ll point his paws at you instead, alongside his hilarious reactions.

If you don’t want to miss out on the fun, it is time to jump into the latest My Talking Tom 2 update today.
