The Mobile platform is considered to be the driving force behind Esports in Saudi Arabia, contributing to competitive gaming in the country, suggests Fabio Tambosi, the Senior VP of Global Marketing of ESL FACEIT. He also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s rapid growth in the gaming industry, noting its young population where gaming is deeply integrated into daily life in a recent interview.

Speaking to Arab News, Tambosi credits mobile gaming as a major driver in Saudi Arabia in both Esports and gaming, pointing out that 93 percent of Saudis own a mobile phone, leading to social gaming experiences and opportunities for professional esports athletes. Diversity and representation are key aspects Tambosi noted, with women comprising 48 percent of the gaming population in Saudi Arabia, whilst crediting events like Gamers8 and the Esports World Cup in opening doors for innovation.

He stated: “Mobile games have become a new and exciting form of entertainment, with players engaging in social gaming experiences, and connecting with friends online. This mobile gaming trend has also contributed to the growth of esports and competitive gaming, offering players a clear path to pro play, creating opportunities for a new generation to become professional esports athletes, open for all.”

Looking ahead, Tambosi predicts a rise in collaborations between esports organizations, content creators, and traditional entertainment, fostering innovation in the industry. Localization of gaming titles to align with Saudi gamers’ linguistic and cultural preferences is also on the horizon, showcasing the industry’s adaptability and cultural richness. Tambosi is also set to speak at the Dubai Lynx 2024 Festival of Creativity on March 5, 2024.

ESL FACEIT is a gaming and Esports company acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group, which made news for a mammoth $4.9 billion acquisition of mobile game developer Scopely, the company behind popular award-winning mobile titles such as Stumble GuysKingdom Maker, and MONOPOLY GO!, to name a few. Savvy itself is a unit of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
