Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has completed the first half of the 2025 esports year and is now ready to carry out all the professional leagues in each region. Following the 2025 roadmap, the Malaysian stage is set to fire the Mobile Legends Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) Season 16. This time, it becomes special as this is the last time the event is going to take place in the legacy format.
Organized by MOONTON and IO Esports, the offline event will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 10 teams will participate for two direct slots to the grand finale event of MLBB. Starting this month, the event is to run till October 2025.
MPL MY Season 16: Schedule and Format
The regular season of the event will kickstart on the 13th of September 2025. This stage will follow a single round robin format with Best-Of-Three (BO3), across six weeks. The top six teams will then advance to the next stage, the Playoffs.
The remaining teams will compete for two slots on the Main Stage of the M7 World Championship, the most prestigious event for MLBB esports. The exact schedule and format have not been announced yet, so keep an eye on this article to know the latest update on the tournament.

The total number of participants for this event is 10, where most of the teams are from the last edition. Only two of the teams are from other events. One came from the Challenger Stage, and the other qualified from the MLBB Academy League Season 3.

The upcoming season of MPL MY will adopt a franchise-based system
The MPL, so far in its history, follows a legacy format. But as the competition is changing now, and the shift to a more sophisticated system has brought a new system before the organizers. Thus, the esports league has partnered with CelcomDigi, Infinix, Grab, Fairrie, 100PLUS, Yamaha, and CeraVe to introduce a franchise-based competition from the next season of MPL MY.
The new format will follow the National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) system. At its core, the target will be to take the Malaysian esports industry to the next level by creating more opportunities for the ecosystem. “This move will strengthen our position as one of the nation’s leading entertainment intellectual properties and create a more sustainable ecosystem for teams, players, and partners,” said Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games.
Where to watch the MPL MY Season 16
The 2025 esports events for MOONTON’s popular MOBA have been witnessing massive success all over the world. And MPL MY is on top of the events with a record-breaking peak concurrent viewers with 870,000 last year. So, all eyes will be on the favorites, along with the newcomers, to see and analyze their performances.
Besides the excitement, it will be under scrutiny to see if the upcoming event can break records. Though the event will take place offline, the fans who won’t be able to attend the event in person can watch it live on the MPL Malaysia Facebook page and the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang YouTube channel.
