NUTS, an adventure title developed by Joon, Pol, Muutsch, Char & Torfi and published by Noodlecake, a well-known indie title publisher, was crowned the Nordic Game of the Year in the Small Screen (Mobile) category during the biannual Nordic Game Awards 2022, an event which shows appreciation for games developed by studios based out of Nordic Regions.
NUTS won the Nordic Game of the Year title beating some of many popular games such as Clash Mini and Crash Bandicoot
Beating out some popular games like Clash Mini and Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, the game was initially tied with TOEM by Something We Made, a Swedish developer but after a tiebreaker, the judges deemed it to be the better game. In the end, Clash Mini, Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, Rivengard, and TOEM ended up on the list of runners-up. NUTS’ mobile version is an Apple Arcade exclusive.
The game involves puzzle mechanics and centers around the players’ job as rookie field researchers, a task where they’ll be in charge of monitoring wildlife in the Melmoth forest. The game has been developed by a small five developers team experienced with indie titles.
Players will have to answer questions about Squirrels like “Where do they hide their nuts? What puzzling routes do they take? And why do they behave so strangely?”. The game features an engaging story along with simplistic gameplay, a unique visual scheme, voice acting, and immersive sound effects.
The Nordic Games Award is among the best game conferences in Europe and this time around, it was held from 17th to 20th May online and in person. The event was sponsored by Epic Games and Unreal Engine.
Other than that, the Nordic region is also developing the other sectors of gaming such as online casinos without registration in Finland.
