Get ready to explore a vast Monster World, transform, and beat mighty bosses
So, Monster Boy is a vibrant side-scrolling action-adventure created in collaboration with Ryuichi Nishizawa, the legendary creator of the beloved Wonder Boy in Monster World series. Originally released as Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, it takes everything fans loved about the classic series and brings it into a modern adventure filled with hand-drawn animation, and I’m loving it.
Here, you play as Jin, a young hero on a quest to save the new Monster World from challenging enemies. As you explore the vibrant regions and uncover hidden locations, you can also unlock six unique forms, each coming with different combat and platforming skills. I do like how these forms also help you open up new paths, teeming with powerful bosses and treasures like special equipment.
Overall, the game looks very promising and enjoyable, offering more than 15 hours of epic adventure, a vast interconnected environment, hand-drawn animations, fun facial expressions, diverse controller support like Xbox, PlayStation, MFi, soundtracks from iconic Japanese composers, and more. But my only concern is the high price, so I hope the devs provide a game launch discount.
Monster Boy is arriving on iOS soon with an expected release date of June 18, 2026, for $24.99, as per the App Store’s listing, and you can now pre-order the game. Meanwhile, you can also check out our upcoming mobile games list.
