PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse is a sequel to Square Enix’s horror hit, haunting multiple platforms this February 19th

Spooky mystery, again!

Story Highlights
  • PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse launches February 19 on mobile, Switch, and PC.
  • The game is a sequel to The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, although the plot is different setting.

Square Enix has officially announced PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse, the next entry and sequel to its blockbuster supernatural mystery title, is launching on February 19, 2026. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam), Android, and iOS.

PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse is set in Ise-Shima, inspired by mermaid folklore

If you played PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, this one is a direct sequel in spirit, even though it tells a completely new story. Instead of Tokyo, the setting shifts to Ise-Shima, a coastal region of Japan deeply tied to old mermaid legends.

The story takes place on Kameshima, a quiet island in Ise Bay. You follow Yuza Minakuchi, a young pearl diver whose life takes a terrifying turn after encountering another version of himself deep underwater. From there, strange curses begin spreading across the island.

Along the way, you meet a mysterious girl with no clear past, a foreign treasure hunter, and a housewife investigating a drowning. Their paths cross in unexpected ways as the truth behind the Mermaids of Ise starts to surface.

Gameplay-wise, The Mermaid’s Curse sticks to the visual novel roots that made the original so memorable, but adds new twists. You’ll play as multiple characters, see events from different perspectives, and piece together the truth yourself.

Square Enix has also added new mechanics, including a diving mini-game, which fits perfectly with the ocean-focused setting. The environments are especially impressive this time, with 360-degree backgrounds based on real locations in collaboration with Mie Prefecture.

Personally, what made the first PARANORMASIGHT special for me was how it handled horror; it was spooky, well-written, and was a fantastic game based on your choices. From everything shown so far, The Mermaid’s Curse looks ready to deliver that same feeling again, just in a colder, foggier coastal setting.

So, in a couple of weeks, at the time of writing, you will find the game available on your respective devices. The game is priced at $24.99, keep an eye on the official website for updates.
