Pokemon GO March 2022 events: Season of Alola, March Community Day and more

Celebrate this March with Pokemons!

2022 has now begun, and Pokemon GO has brought players, a variety of events and activities in the month of March. Over the next few weeks, the Pokemon mobile game will be holding new legendary Pokemon raids, March Community Day, and a few other in-game events.

The Season of Alola begins in Pokemon GO

A new in-game season is coming soon to Pokémon GO: the Season of Alola! Pokémon originally found in the Alola region will start appearing on March 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time!

Conduct Research on the Islands of Alola

Throughout the season, you’ll be able to complete different Special Research lines to learn about each of the islands in Alola. These Special Research lines will be available to collect until the Season ends on June 1! If you complete them by June 1st, 2022, you’ll unlock a bonus Special Research line at the end of the Season!

Trainers who obtain the end-of-Season Special Research by completing the four Special Research lines will be able to purchase the ticket in the shop for more rewards. Tickets for the end-of-Season research will also be available in the shop to purchase for $4.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency).

Special Research events in Season of Alola

These Special Research lines will be available to collect beginning at 10:00 a.m. local time on specified dates and ending on June 1, 2022, at 9:59 a.m. You can finish a research line anytime after you receive it.

  • Melemele Island Special Research (Available to collect from March 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022)
  • Akala Island Special Research (Available to collect from March 22, 2022 to June 1, 2022)
  • Ula’ula Island Special Research (Available to collect from April 12, 2022 to June 1, 2022)
  • Poni Island Special Research (Available to collect from May 10, 2022 to June 1, 2022)
  • End-of-Season Special Research (Available to collect from May 25, 2022 until June 1, 2022)

Seasonal Bonuses

During the Season of Alola, the following bonuses will be active.

  • Increased Incense effectiveness while moving
  • Increased damage for Pokémon participating in raids remotely
  • Guaranteed Gifts from PokéStop spins
  • Up to two free Raid Passes per day by spinning Gym Photo Discs
  • Incense will last for 90 minutes

Alola-themed avatar item will be available

The styles of Alola will also be coming to Pokémon GO this season. Trainers can look forward to an avatar item inspired by Comfey coming to the in-game shop soon.

This March, players will be getting the third Community Day of 2022 in Pokémon GO where trainers will see Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew, the Mouse Pokémon featured. The Community Day will also have many bonuses and research tasks and, many more.

Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew will be appearing more frequently in the wild.

Exclusive Attack

  • Sandslash: Evolve Sandshrew during the event or up to two hours afterward to get a Sandslash that knows the Charged Attack Night Slash.
  • Alolan Sandslash: Evolve Alolan Sandshrew during the event or up to two hours afterward to get an Alolan Sandslash that knows the Fast Attack Shadow Claw.
  • Shadow Claw
    • Trainer Battles: 6 power
    • Gyms and raids: 9 power
  • Night Slash
    • Trainer Battles: 50 power
    • Gyms and raids: 50 power

Community Day Special Research Story: Gritty and Glacial

  • For US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Sandshrew Community Day–exclusive Special Research story, Gritty and Glacial.
  • Stay tuned for when tickets for the Gritty and Glacial Special Research story go live.

Tickets are nonrefundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service). Please note that this Special Research will not include an in-game medal.

Event Bonuses and Bundles

  • 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event period.
  • Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
  • There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Community Day Box available for 1,280 PokéCoins, featuring 30 Ultra Balls, three Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs, 1 Elite Charged TM.

Five-Star Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in raids throughout March 2022.

A guardian deity of the Alola region, the Legendary Pokémon Tapu Koko will be making its Pokémon GO debut in five-star raids this March. Therian Forme Tornadus will also be appearing in five-star raids. Do remember that Raid rotations all start and end at 10:00 a.m. local time on the dates listed unless otherwise noted.

Mega Raids

Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard Y, and Mega Lopunny will be appearing in Mega Raids! Moreover, the Raid rotations all start and end at 10:00 a.m. local time on the dates listed.

Raid Hours

Every Wednesday in March, a Raid Hour event will occur from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time. The following Pokémon will be featured.

Pokémon Spotlight Hours

In the month of March, Pokémon Spotlight Hour will take place every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, and each will spotlight a different Pokémon and a special bonus

Other Feature Updates

A new visual update will be released in March for Gyms and PokéStops. These in-game locations will now be visually different depending on whether you are within 40 m, within 80 m, or out of range of the location. However, this change is purely visual in nature and will not impact gameplay.
