PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL) CIS 2022 canceled due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war

PMPL CIS slots will be redistributed!

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has had an impact on the gaming and esports industry from the beginning. Now, PUBG Mobile officials have finally announced that the Pro-League 2022 for the CIS region is canceled after their previous announcement of keeping the event postponed. Officials stated the reason for cancellation as ‘current global situation,’ referring to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Since the war, several esports and gaming companies have pulled out of Russia and stopped services.

The CIS region represents all teams from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The Pro-league of the CIS region was the first PMPL to happen this year, starting on February 14, but it was indefinitely postponed due to Russia invading Ukraine.

PMPL CIS 2022: Why did it get canceled

Now, PUBG Mobile officials have officially canceled the event. The announcement was made by PUBG Mobile Esports, where they said that the reason for canceling the event was the ‘current global situation.’ “This was a difficult decision to make, but it has become clear that we cannot maintain a high-quality production and competition worthy of our players and fans.” However, the announcement doesn’t directly refer to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and it is clear what it refers to.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been devastating for everyone across Europe, especially those living in these countries; because of the ongoing combat between troops from both sides, organizing an event like PMPL is impossible. Events like PMPL attract large crowds regionally and are also viewed by viewers worldwide. With Russia destroying communication infrastructure and the internet in Ukraine, it will be impossible for players to play in a suitable environment.

As per the format, top teams from PMPL CIS were supposed to qualify for the PMPL European Championship. Now that the event is canceled for the CIS region, the slots will be re-distributed to the PMPL teams from Western Europe and Turkey. This also means that the players from the CIS regions will not be able to participate in the PUBG Mobile Club Open, the amateur-level competition.
