Squirdle: A Pokémon-themed version of Wordle is now available for Pokémon fans

Hardcore Pokémon fans can now take a test of their Pokémon knowledge with Squirdle.

For a long time, Pokémon crossovers have been famous, making it one of the most popular gaming franchises in the world today. Keeping up with this trend, a new version of the hit puzzle game Wordle for hardcore Pokémon fans called Squirdle is available now and it’s been developed by a Costa Rican software developer named Sergio Morales.

Squirdle, the newly available Wordle variant

Unlike the usual Wordle where you guess a daily word, players in Squirdle have eight guesses to try and figure out the Pokémon of the day. After their first guess, a row will appear letting the player know where that Pokémon fits in each category: Gen, Type 1, Type 2, Height, and Weight.

If the Pokémon is in the correct category, the box beside their guess will turn green. If they are wrong, it will turn red in either of the Type categories, or there will be an arrow in the other categories indicating that the correct Pokémon is in a higher or lower Gen, Height, or Weight.

This is why Squirdle is deemed to be for those who know almost everything about Pokémon. And for beginners and people who cannot keep up with the vast variety of Pokémon available, there is a version that just deals with Generation 1 Pokémon.

More about Wordle

Wordle was launched by Josh Wardle and Palak Shah in October 2021, right when the second wave of the coronavirus forced us all into lockdown. Wordle was an instant hit as people sitting at home while they were self-isolating had a chance to play something interesting and fun. Wordle took the internet by a storm as the game became so popular that it was bought by the New York Times for a hefty seven-figure sum.

Wordle is extremely simple yet so distinctly interesting, users have to guess a daily word with a limited amount of guesses. The community of Wordle users grew like a forest fire from just a couple of hundreds to thousands within a month. Now people make strategic plans to come up with the daily word as soon as possible.

Just like Wordle, Squirdle has already taken over the internet, with hardcore Pokémon fans trending hashtags and flaunting their high scores on their social media wall. Squirdle is free to play online using this website.
