Madfun Game has announced the shutdown of the service of its fantasy RPG, The Tale of Food on March 20, 2025. This 2-million-word food-based storyline game was released on April 13, 2023, exploring Chinese food cultures. The Chinese version was also discontinued last year on June 18, 2024.
The Tale of Food is shutting down, following the closure of the Chinese version last year
For those unfamiliar with the game, The Tale of Food is a fantasy RPG, featuring over 100 interactive characters personified by food, a 2-million-word fantasy adventure, full voiceovers for all characters, and more. In this game, you can collect and nurture Food Souls, run a restaurant with them, customize your house, form battle lineups, and do other activities.
Unfortunately, The Tale of Food team has announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the game will shutdown on March 20, 2025. In this announcement, they stated, “After careful consideration of the game’s status, we regret to inform you that The Tale of Food will officially cease service on March 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM (UTC+8).“
You can play and use all in-game items and also request refunds
As of today’s update, in-game purchases and new user registrations have been disabled. The game has also been removed from the Google Play and App Store. However, if you have the game installed, you can still enjoy your final moments with the game and use all in-game items, including Jewels until the termination date.
Additionally, you can apply for refunds for unused Jewels, considering the purchase was made between January 9 and February 18, 2025. You can submit refund requests via in-game support or email them, until March 20, 2025. On the positive side, the game’s communities will remain active.
Another good game is shutting down, and fans are understandably sad about it. Some even demand an offline version similar to Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. A Chinese netizen mentioned a companion version available in China that includes previous plots, so we can hope the same for the global version.
