Google seems to be turning its attention back to the gaming industry again, this time around with YouTube. The streaming platform, YouTube is currently testing a product for playing online games according to an email sent to employees at the parent company Google as reported by Wall Street Journal. The new product referred to as ‘Playables’ will allow players to access online games on the platform.
Google aims to enter and establish its share in the mobile gaming industry
With the new product on offer, Google will not only be able to enter the gaming industry but also will be able to penetrate through the industry with the games being made available to be played on YouTube’s site, Android and iOS. The success of this move will depend on the portfolio of games that they will be able to bring forth for the players on the platform.
The games that will be made available for the players as part of the portfolio of games on the platform have not yet been confirmed by YouTube. It is expected that new games will be made available as the product will be released. As of now, they have confirmed that games like Stack Bounce, an arcade game title will be made available for the players.
The main motive behind this move seems to be Google’s ambition of entering the gaming industry. The Industry has been booming of late, with many new titles and sequels being released to the market for the players to enjoy. This has not only increased the fanbase but has helped the developers of these titles multiply their revenue. Google also seems to be eager in joining the trend and capture new markets with YouTube now aiming to penetrate the markets with Playables.
Only time can tell how unique and how successful this move will turn out to be, however with the massive popularity of YouTube, reach most certainly won’t be an issue. The success will most definitely depend on the availability of games on the platform.
