My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge review: Engage in a thrilling yet casual experience

This banana is Ripe for Revenge. Are you?

When Devolver Digital, the popular publisher of indie games like Hotline Miami and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout said they were going to release two new weird games for mobile, mobile gamers probably didn’t know what to expect. And to be honest, the first announcement of a game called Tumble Time was sort of disappointing and sounded like every overused and unfunny joke out there shaming mobile gamers for being mobile gamers. However, they seem to have redeemed themselves with this brand new title that has burst into the mobile gaming scene. Released for consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch first, My Friend Pedro has now been released for mobile. The game looks like a great puzzle platformer full of action and explosions. Here in this article, we will review My Friend Pedro and share our first impressions of the game

Experience the classic action platformer on your mobile

Starting with the My Friend Pedro review the gameplay is pretty damn cool. There’s a story to shape the adventure, bad guys, guns, explosives, skateboards, bikes, and more! Players control their character who is helping his friend out (who happens to be a banana) with getting his kidnapped wife and kids back from the bad guys of this story.

The gameplay is fluid and smooth and despite being a casual title, it’s actually pretty damn thrilling! Remember though, you only have three lives so it’s best to practice and gain the ability to instantly take down enemies on sight. The character is equipped with guns and they keep getting better as you play through (and you can dual wield!) and parkour your way through levels while also taking out enemies.

Flip and fire your way through 37 action packed levels with Pedro

Currently, there are 37 levels available to players in two game modes – Normal and Bloodrush and both of them need different skill levels and strategies. The Normal mode is just the regular levels with all the action and 3 stars awarded after the end of each level while the Bloodrush mode takes it up a notch and throws in a timer to make things intense. The Normal mode isn’t lenient either and maintains a sense of challenge with the killstreak and the speed parameter is a part of the three star rating.

While 37 levels at first might not feel like a lot, with the Bloodrush mode, and in case you decide to win three stars on every level, you’ll get a lot of gameplay time. At some point, the game even switches to 3D as you maneuver on a high-speed bike and blow up stuff.

The game offers impressive visuals with a clean UI and simple controls

The visuals are pretty damn good-looking and fit the game’s theme while the fast-paced action soundtrack also really goes well with the rhythm of the gameplay.

The controls might take some time to get used to but once you get the hang of them, you’ll get comfortable with a few hitches here and there. The UI is clean, simplistic, and very easy to understand. There’s not much to it and the game has that casual vibe to it which really mixes in perfectly. One of the things which could be added though is controller support but right now it’s fine even without that.

Bloodrush requires an additional purchase but the game makes it count

The game doesn’t have ads irrespective of whether you have premium or not. The monetization method is something like that of Smash Hit where paying once unlocks a premium that allows you to start directly from checkpoints you’ve played until instead of having to start all over again as you would have to without the premium.

This might be something that upsets people (and going by the reviews it does) but honestly, this is the price of quality. This game is a really good must-play title that the devs have worked hard on and they absolutely deserve to receive a few bucks for a premium so that their work is rewarded and they’re able to keep working on bangers like these.

Final Verdict

My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge is something every mobile gamer must try. The visuals, the gameplay, the music, and the feeling of satisfaction it gives are simply the very definition of a great game and if you have a couple of bucks, you should definitely buy the premium.

At times the game feels like you are Deadpool or John Wick or in the Matrix with the bullet time which is really reminiscent of Max Payne and the gunplay which is really cool.

The story is well… kind of humorous and something that goes with the game while the 2 game modes are pretty fun- especially Bloodrush which adds this extra challenge to the game. Overall, the game is certainly something we recommended for all mobile gamers out there.
