The Division Resurgence delivers a fluid and immersive gameplay experience with a captivating storyline
Starting with the review, let’s dive into the gameplay experience of The Division Resurgence. I personally found the gameplay really great, with a solid variety of content and a great storyline to enjoy as you explore the shared open-world space in New York filled with NPCs and real players from around the world.
Set in the same world as The Division and The Division 2, you get a standalone story where you play as a first-wave Division agent during the Green Poison outbreak. The cinematics look like a movie as New York falls into chaos, and that’s where your task begins: rescuing the civilians and fighting hostile factions.
The dialogues, cinematics, and lore between the gameplay and every main mission really enhance the experience. You obviously get the option to skip it, but it’s actually a nice storyline, and I personally wasn’t bored one bit. As a fan of the previous titles, it was kind of nostalgic to a degree.
The tutorial is quite simple and easy to follow, so you won’t have much trouble and will quickly get comfortable with the mechanics. And it’s actually very fun as you get to experiment with diverse weapons, gear, and especially the specializations while taking on hostile factions across the city or battling with or against other players in unique game modes.
If you like shooters, the fluid gameplay and smooth movement will definitely impress you, as everything feels very polished to me. This further makes every combat encounter more fun and satisfying rather than repetitive or dull.
It is content-rich and highly replayable, with standout modes like the Dark Zone
Now, in terms of replayability, the game is very generous with what content it offers. I mean, the game is literally designed as a live service experience, so you can always expect regular updates that further expand the storyline, world, and challenges over time.
And the game has a variety of content already to keep you busy, right from Hostile Nests and World Events like Hostage Rescues to modes like the Dark Zone. The best part? You can enjoy everything the game has to offer solo or team up with friends, depending on how you prefer, of course.
That said, Dark Zone was easily my favorite, as it blends both PvP and PvE in a tense extraction format. Besides that, I had a fun time exploring the shared open-world to find hidden shelters, Easter eggs, and other collectibles scattered throughout New York City.
Impressive audio and visuals held back slightly by frame rate limits
And when it comes to visuals and audio, the devs have done a really good job. Now, I’m a sucker for high graphics, and playing on the highest setting on this game really surprised me, as the level of detail and visuals is actually impressive for a mobile title. The world design, environment, and NPCs all look good.
However, I was disappointed with the frame rate being locked at 30/31 FPS at very high graphics. I feel a 60 FPS option would have made the gameplay experience much smoother, especially during the battles. That aside, the audio also complements well, from dialogues and gunshots to BGM, making everything more immersive.
Clean UI and responsive controls enhance the experience of TDR
I like the overall UI of The Division Resurgence, and I think it does a good job of supporting the gameplay by making you not feel overwhelmed. Yes, I agree that there is a lot of stuff on the game screen, but you unlock most of it gradually, which actually makes everything easier to understand and navigate.
On top of this, I also love the controls here, as both movement and shooting feel very responsive and comfortable to me. Well, comfort is a personal thing, and the layout customization does help you tailor it according to your preference. I didn’t feel it buggy while shooting enemies, jumping, or moving around the map. You can even choose to play with a Controller or MnK.
While IAPs don’t force you, it can feel quite expensive if you decide to spend
Like every modern mobile game, The Division Resurgence also offers a range of in-app purchases, like the Classified Ops Pass, Sealed Caches, Skin Packs, Bundle Store, and more. There is also a Special Offers section, where you can get cosmetics and materials for cheap. But I never actually felt forced to spend any money to progress, at least until mid-game.
Cosmetics are really optional and a personal choice, so you can easily follow a free-to-play approach and have a fun time in the game. You can easily collect Character XP, materials, various currencies, and more by just playing the diverse modes and trying the unique activities.
That said, if you do plan on spending, it can get pretty expensive. Compared to titles like Call of Duty Mobile or PUBG Mobile, the cost of the battle pass here is on the higher side. Even the skin packs and singular weapon skins are quite expensive, at least for me, and I do spend on games.
Final Verdict
All in all, The Division Resurgence brings a solid shooter experience with smooth gameplay, a variety of enjoyable content, and stunning visuals and sound design for mobile. While the FPS limitation and pricey IAPs can be bothersome for a few, the core gameplay is very fun and replayable.
If you’re a fan of The Division IP, shooter games, or just want to enjoy a polished FPS on mobile with high replayability and depth, The Division Resurgence is definitely worth trying. And, with the promise of regular updates coming, you won’t be bored here.
