Amihan Esports is banned from Riot Games esports for a limited time

Investigation shows under-aged player was a part of the organization's roster

Amihan Esports, a Filipino League of Legends: Wild Rift organization, is banned by riot games for violating Rule 2.3 (Age) of the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series Philippines Competition Policy for presenting illegally forged documents. In an investigation conducted by Riot games officials, it is found that a player, AMI Karlll (Karl Ken Bautista), from the esports organization’s roster, did not have the requirements fulfilled to participate in the esports tournaments, though he did participate by submitting false documents.

Several members from the esports organization were accused of this scam and received punishments individually, effective immediately.

  1. Karl Ken Bautista aka AMI Karlll – 9-month ban from all Riot Games esports. The ban is considered to have begun as of the date of his last match (June 26th 2021).
  2. Christian Villegas, Former Team Manager – 12-month ban from all Riot Games esports.
  3. Francis Mariano, Team Owner – indefinite ban from all Riot Games esports. Francis will be eligible to apply for reinstatement after 2 years from the date of this announcement.

Official statement by Riot Games

In a post from Riot Games’ official website, they cleared the context of the ban. After getting reports on Karl “AMI Karlll” Ken Bautista about map hacking and inaccurate player documentation in June 2021, Riot Games Southeast Asia Esports immediately launched an investigation. They found the player to be legit and the papers to be clean.

However, in July 2021 after the SEA Icon Series Summer Super Cup, they found new evidence and reopened the investigation where it is found that his documentations were forged at the time of registration. Amihan Esports was fully aware of this misrepresentation. Riot Games further stated,

“Maintaining the competitive integrity of all our esports tournaments, as well as the safety and well-being of pro teams, are Riot’s top priorities, and we take such violations extremely seriously. All our participating teams are expected to abide by the rules of fair play, agreed upon prior to participation in the tournaments. Violations of the rules of fair play will not be tolerated.”

Moreover, Amihan Esports have to forfeit all its winning money from both the SEA Icon Series Philippines Summer Season and the SEA Icon Series Summer Super Cup as they are now banned from all the Riot Games esports. The amount will be donated to a charity of Riot’s choice. Apart from that, the organization will also lose its slot SEA Icon Series Fall Season. A new team will be announced to fill their place.
