Mobile Legends: Online banter between MPL ID, PH, and MY heats up after BREN is mentioned; TODAK explains their part

The MPL SEA Facebook page's fun gone wrong

It’s a common clash of words about which region is better than the other one in SEA. There have been many speculations and fun posts on social media about the MLBB teams from SEA as the M3 World Championship draws closer. The Philippines and Indonesia have been more or less the top two among the fans and followers. As MPL PH and MPL ID were having an online banter war, soon MPL MY joined the fray and things quickly went downhill from there.

With M3 close at hand, the social media pages of the MPL Philippines and MPL Indonesia posted some friendly pokes and argued about which team is better and who is the strongest region in SEA. MPL Malaysia stated a fact, that the defending champion BREN is not playing whereas TODAK is. This remark was meant in a harmless, fun way but as soon as the Filipino fans saw this, the weather turned bad.

MPL ID, PH, MY banter war: What actually happened in this controversy

Meme made on MPL ID

The story began when the MPL PH Facebook page posted about the MSC 2021 Finals participants being all Filipino teams and BREN as the winner of M2. Questioning whether they are the strongest region in SEA, the post was a fun place to start a banter war. But soon after that, the MPL ID official pages posted a photo showing their representative team ONIC Esports, which recently defeated Blacklist International. MPL ID was simply trying to prove their victory over the Filipino side and claim the strongest region spot.

MPL ID Facebook post also had the photo MPL PH posted earlier. Poking and comments were at large in the respective posts. Everyone seemed to enjoy the comparison and highlighting facts about both of these regions.

A bid to promote the M3 turns sour

Adding to the heckling, MPL MY posted that the Filipino team BREN was not playing M3 but the Malaysian team TODAK was. This was all a part of making a point about who is on top, but the Filipino fans reacted badly over this. There were calls to take that post down, and it was short-lived after that.

It was revealed later that the post was removed because TODAK told them to do so. As the angry fans wanted a statement regarding the issue, TODAK gave a statement too.

Statement from TODAK

“Due to the misleading statement originating from the poster (MPL MY), we received many fan reactions from both the Malaysian team and the teams from other countries. Therefore, we would like to clarify that the Todak team is not affiliated with the poster that has been released in any way, shape, or form.”

Soon after that, the issue died down but the buzz was widely spread regarding the competitiveness of the regions. Every side is willing to show the strength of their own region and establish it as the strongest one. This little poke-war surely helped to spread more hype about M3 but at the same time, some harsh words were exchanged among the community. Everyone will be looking at M3 now to see which SEA team really prevails.

The sweat clash always welcome in the compitative scene. Though, i am biased on the side on Indo teams. Specially for RRQ.
Hope RRQ will earn the M3.
