The League Stage of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2020 has come to an end today. In the past 4 weeks, 24 best teams around the globe fought their fate in proceeding for the finals. The PMGC 2020 league stage was designed to pick the best of the best where teams had to fight on weekdays in order to advance for the super weekend whose points were actually counted in the league.
A prize pool of $710K was in the grabs for the league stage. The league champions, FOUR ANGRY MEN bagged $300K out of it while the runners-up received $125K and the second runners-up took $75K as the rest was distributed among the other teams. To reduce the latency problems, the tournament was held both online and offline mode for teams who weren’t allowed to travel amid the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Brief summary of the PMGC 2020 League Stage
Overall, the league stage was a fight between the PUBG MOBILE World League East champions Bigetron Red Aliens and Chinese team FOUR ANGRY MEN who stood first in the PEL Championship Points for the top spot. While the rest teams showed balanced game and had their focus in qualifying for the finals.
FOUR ANGRY MEN (4AM) indeed deserved to win it, the team displayed a whole mixture of both kill and placement points, aggression, proper teamwork. With the team’s players regularly being featured on daily killboards, each player stepped up whenever necessary for the team. The team included everything champions need to win a tournament from top fraggers to having the most number of Chicken Dinners in the tournament. 33Svan won the title of the MVP of the League Stages.
Bigetron Red Aliens on the other hand had an impressive performance as well. The team held the top spot for 3 weeks until having a rough last weekend which allowed 4AM the opportunity to take over and they capitalised pretty well on it. The Red Aliens had to satisfy themselves with the second position this time.
Thai team RRQ Athena showed very consistent gameplay. They maintained their placement points as well as kill points and ended up with 6 Chicken Dinners granting them the third position. Konina Power and Klas Digital Athletics were among the western teams to shine in the tournament as they ended up fourth and fifth respectively.
One last thing you should know about this tournament was the termination of Brazilian team and PUBG MOBILE World League West Champions Loops Esports who were disqualified from the entire league after they violated the code of conduct and competitive integrity rules. The team sat happily on the 6th position and had their tickets for the finals but their silly move cost them all of their weeks of hard work and dreams, which has now allowed A1 Esports to replace them in the finals.
The league proceeded as only 16 teams advanced to the finals and the bottom 8 got eliminated after the league play. The top 16 teams after the conclusion of the League Stage go like this:
|1||FOUR ANGRY MEN||631||8|
|5||KLAS DIGITAL ATHLETICS||522||3|
Though 4AM’s Sukk had the most number of kills still it was his teammate 33Svan who became the most valuable player of the tournament for having an impressive 144 kills with additional 32692 damage dealt and 20:04 average time of survival. The PUBG MOBILE Global Championship 2020 Grand Finals will now be played with those top 16 teams to determine the best PUBG Mobile team in the world. The finals will be having 4 days of play starting on 21st to 24th January. Although it has been scheduled to be held offline in Dubai but is likely to turn into an online event if teams aren’t allowed to travel.
The finals are guaranteed to be more intense as we’re yet to see what teams have to offer and will have their last chance for proving themselves in the global stage. As per the fans expectations and gameplay we’ve witnessed before, Nova-XQF, RRQ Athena, Team Secret are among the teams to look out for in the finals except the toppers 4AM and Bigetron RA.
