This is actually a pretty decent card considering the cost. Looking purely at the numbers, Alaba has a very decent defensive profile with good balance between defending, physical contact, passing, and ball-playing ability.
The biggest positive here is definitely Long Reach Tackle. That’s one of the better defensive Show Time skills you can give a centre-back. What I also like is that he feels much more complete on the ball than most centre-backs. Through Passing, One Touch Pass, Weighted Pass, and Pinpoint Crossing are all useful skills, so building from the back becomes much easier with him.
His player model is solid too. A leg length rating of 10 is respectable and works nicely alongside Long Reach Tackle. The downside is the aerial side of things. For a centre-back, a heading stat in the mid-70s isn’t ideal, especially in the current meta where crosses and aerial duels can still be dangerous.
Despite having good jump and physical contact numbers, the heading itself lets him down compared to top-tier centre-backs. At 180 cm, he is also on the shorter side for a CB. Against bigger target men and elite aerial strikers, that weakness will show up occasionally.
Overall, though, for a relatively cheap card, this is a very solid option. Long Reach Tackle carries a lot of value; the defensive stats are good, and his passing ability makes him much more versatile than a typical centre-back. I recommend this purchase.
