FIFA Mobile 22: Reviewing the UTOTS Starter Players

Choose only from the best players!

UTOTS is finally here in FIFA Mobile 22 with both the Starter and the Reserve Players. One of the biggest events of every FIFA Mobile, Team of the Season, always ends with the highly-awaited Ultimate section. A squad of the best-performing players from the top 5 leagues in Europe is chosen each year and each player is given an enhanced UTOTS version of the regular TOTS variants.

The format for UTOTS varies each year but the main idea is pretty much the same. This year, we’ve got 11 UTOTS Starters and 13 UTOTS Reserves. The proper top end of the list has cards that require a bit of real cash to unlock. The lower end of the FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter Players are available to free-to-play players but will require a bit more grinding to claim. All the UTOTS Reserves are claimable for regular players and these are usually the more popular choices.

In this article, we will be looking at the FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter Players in particular. These guys range in increase overall from 99 to 101 and are all pretty tough to claim. We have looked at them in detail, analyzing their pros, cons, and playstyles to help the decision of which ones to go for. All those calculations. All that time. All that effort. It all comes down to this. Choose wisely!

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter Players

Theo Hernandez (LB)

  • Overall: 99
  • Requirement: 350 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Reactions

Overview

Hernandez was another one of the key cogs that drive AC Milan to their first title since 2011. He registered 5 goals and 6 assists in 32 league appearances from the LB position. At just 24 years of age, Hernandez is regarded among the best full-backs in Europe.

VSA

Hernandez doesn’t appear often as a defender in VSA, though he isn’t a complete pushover when he does. He is fairly straightforward to get past and can get stunned with skill moves. However, he reacts fairly quickly and his general tackles and blocks are decent too. His standout strength means he can shake some attackers well on top. Obviously, Hernandez’s best side shows in H2H more.

H2H

This is an outrageously fast player and it is evident in-game. Hernandez has the technical quality to keep up with that crazy speed too, making for an extremely fun card to use. Hernandez has impressive strength too, allowing him to power through with his dribbles, and he is often really tough to dispossess.

His final pass is reliable too, especially the crosses which are powerful and accurate. The 3* skill moves are a slight drawback, as it doesn’t have the Lane Change skill move, but it isn’t too big a problem though. For those that focus a lot of their play through these wing-backs, Hernandez would be a fantastic addition to the team.

Marquinhos (CB)

  • Overall: 99
  • Requirement: 350 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Defending

Overview

Marquinhos was one of PSG‘s most important players last term, starting 32 of their games. He helped them reclaim the Ligue 1 title by contributing towards 13 clean sheets and popping 5 goals for himself at the other end. This upcoming season will complete a decade of his time at PSG.

VSA

As expected from a card with that Ultimate TOTS status, Marquinhos is a formidable defender and is really tough to get past. He is practically immune to being stunned and constantly sticks to the attackers. This is the kind of defender a player would try to avoid in VSA.

FM Stats UTOTS Marquinhos FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

H2H

Marquinhos is a complete defender that excels in pretty much every department for a defender. In addition to his elite-level defending, this card has the pace to catch up with attackers. On top of that, Marquinhos is a modern ball-playing CB, with the ability to pick out a good pass at any range. He can easily suit multiple playstyles and defensive setups and is a brilliant CB to have on the team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)

  • Overall: 99
  • Requirement: 350 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Balanced

Overview

After a fairly underwhelming season prior, Trent hit back into double digits with 2 goals and 12 assists in 31 league games. He only just missed out on the PL Golden Playmaker award too, with teammate Salah beating Trent by one assist. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best passers in the league, or even the world, with his crosses and long balls often resulting in chances for teammates.

VSA

Alexander-Arnold isn’t really a regular defender in VSA, though he puts a decent shift in as an obstacle for the attacker. Alexander-Arnold can be stunned with skill moves, though to be fair, he can react and turn pretty quickly. His tackles are timed well and his speed helps him follow attackers too. It’s nothing standout here, but obviously, this card is better suited to H2H than VSA.

FM Stats UTOTS Alexander-Arnold FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

H2H

Alexander-Arnold’s passing range can literally be overwhelming at times. He can play some of the best and most accurate long-range passes and is a constant threat on that right-hand side. Alexander-Arnold is an exceptional dribbler too, with a fluid turn and a great burst of speed.

He is limited to just 3* skill moved, but that isn’t too bad a drawback. All in all, this card is essentially an extra, deeper playmaker for the team. For those that are interested in this card, it is highly recommended to try and make use of it wherever possible. Its pinpoint passes and whipped crosses can often create chances out of nothing.

Christopher Nkunku (CAM)

  • Overall: 99
  • Requirement: 350 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Counter

Overview

Nkunku was unstoppable this year. The tally of 35 goals and 20 assists in all competitions really speaks for itself. At 24 years of age, the Frenchman has been running an average of just under 1.1 goal contributions per appearance, which is immense. RB Leipzig would be nowhere near where they are now without Nkunku, who contributed to 49% of his team’s goals.

VSA

CAMs are always useful for VSA, as they are essentially extra, more well-rounded strikers. Nkunku embodies that perfectly, he is absolutely lethal inside the box and outside the box. He has shots probably better than some of the best strikers in the game, and the best part is he can go off both feet too. On the ball, Nkunku has exceptional control and turns smoothly and rapidly. This is pretty much a perfect card for this mode.

H2H

Nkunku fairs as well in H2H as in VSA. In addition to his goal-scoring, he is a fantastic playmaker too. Some of the through balls and passes Nkunku can pull off doesn’t even seem possible beforehand. This is a really fun card to use, with fantastic dribbling and a satisfying burst of speed. Anyone that uses a CAM in their playstyle will find that Nkunku can slot in effortlessly.

Mike Maignan (GK)

  • Overall: 100
  • Requirement: 500 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Reflexes

Overview

Maignan enjoyed a sensational first season in Italy, helping AC Milan win the Scudetto with a club-record points tally. The Frenchman conceded just 21 goals in 32 appearances, keeping a league-leading total of 17 clean sheets. He made some fantastic saves over the course of the season and has emerged as one of Europe’s finest, at just 26 years old.

VSA

Because of his UTOTS status, it just feels like Maignan is actually a good goalkeeper. In this season of FIFA Mobile, goalkeepers have not made that big of a difference. The idea is a good shot will go in regardless of who is there to save it. With UTOTS Maignan though, it’s a bit tough to judge.

He’s tall and heavy build makes it seem like he naturally covers more of the goal, and he seems to get to shots better than most keepers. Then in other matches, he concedes shots that could be saved with a bit more effort. Well, at least it’s certain that he is statistically the best GK in the game. About his in-game performance, it’s probably not fully reliable, but better than the usual standard for keepers.

FM Stats UTOTS Maignan FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

H2H

It’s sort of the same case here from VSA. Maignan seems to cover more of the goal but his shot-stopping is sometimes impressive, sometimes not. Distribution-wise, Maignan is reliable so that’s a plus. All in all, this is an expensive purchase for a card that maybe isn’t as effective as hoped. However, it’s technically the best in its position, so there it doesn’t get better than this.

Virgil Van Dijk (CB)

  • Overall: 100
  • Requirement: 500 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Marking

Overview

After a season plagued with injuries, Van Dijk was back in the Liverpool starting lineup for the 21/22 campaign. Instantly, the defense went up a few levels; they kept 21 clean sheets this term, in comparison to just 12 prior when Van Dijk was injured. The Dutchman is known as one of the best CBs in football, consistently performing at the highest levels.

VSA

Something about cards of Van Dijk is just different. They’re always big, powerful, and just a general pain to deal with for attackers. FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter Van Dijk is the same. Trying to stun him with skill moves isn’t even an option, since it never works. He excels in basically every part of defending and is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best, CBs in the game.

H2H

This card is complete in literally all aspects of the game. He’s got great speed to catch up with attackers and his ability to bring the ball out from the back is second to none. Van Dijk is the kind of guy that will instantly take the level of defense up a level. Obviously, he is quite expensive but to be fair, he is probably worth it.

Kylian Mbappe (ST)

  • Overall: 100
  • Requirement: 500 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Second Striker

Overview

It’s difficult to put words together and describe how good Kylian Mbappe is at times. The 23-year-old is an absolute freak of nature and we still haven’t seen him at his absolute best either. In the last season, he racked up 28 goals and 17 assists in just 35 appearances – about 1.3 goal contributions per game. By doing that, Mbappe casually claimed both the Top Scorer and Top Assister awards. It really is scary to think about what Mbappe would like at his full potential.

VSA

Mbappe’s other variants in FIFA Mobile have been popular amongst the player base, particularly the TOTS versions. Now imagine that, but multiple times better, and with a 5* weak foot. This card is honestly just too good. With deadly finishing and brilliant movement, Mbappe has it all, which is why he is easily one of the best strikers in the game.

H2H

Mbappe is well known for his lethal speed, and that translates in-game here. His pace, combined with his elite-level ball control and the power shots, makes for a devastating striker card. Let’s not forget he can go off both feet as well! Although expensive, this card is limitless and those fortunate players that can get their hands on this guy are in for a treat.

Mohammed Salah (RW)

  • Overall: 100
  • Requirement: 500 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Speed

Overview

At the start of the season, there was never a debate about who was the best player in the league at that point. Salah was literally scoring/assisting every game and blanked only once for 17 matches in a row. He ended the season as the joint top-scorer and top assister, with 23 goals and 13 assists.

VSA

One of the common talking points of Salah in FIFA Mobile has been his one-footed nature. The regular TOTS edition took the level up to 4* but this card is just on another level. With a 5* weak foot, Salah is already a completely different player. His finishing is pretty much a cheat code, and on the ball, he feels quick and clean. This card is very well suited for this mode, without a doubt.

FM Stats UTOTS Salah FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

H2H

Salah has everything to be a top-class winger for H2H. He can instantly bring up the level of an attack with his exceptional speed, dribbling, and goal-scoring. That’s not all though, Salah is also a good chance creator, with the ability to play incisive through balls and whipped crosses. He is a very difficult card to obtain but is probably worth that price.

Robert Lewandowski (ST)

  • Overall: 101
  • Requirement: 700 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Finishing

Overview

It’s the era of dominance for Robert Lewandowski, who just doesn’t seem to rest. This time, he hit 35 goals in 34 Bundesliga matches, with another 3 assists on top of that. If that wasn’t enough, he scored another 13 times in just 10 matches in the UEFA Champions League. Lewandowksi is currently linked with a move elsewhere, which is understandable since this has been his 12th season in Germany.

VSA and H2H Gameplay

This card is a different breed for both VSA and H2H. His ability to score goals from anywhere on the pitch is simply just the baseline. In addition to that, Lewandowski is a fantastic dribbler and he’s even got a bit of speed as well. His height and strength mean he is tough to dispossess too. This is such a complete striker, and anyone would be lucky to get their hands on this.

Kevin De Bruyne (CM)

  • Overall: 101
  • Requirement: 700 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Vision

Overview

De Bruyne was recently named the Premier League Player of the Season after yet another stellar season with Manchester City. This season, he recorded 15 goals and 8 assists in just 25 start to help guide City to their 6th Premier League title. Usually known for his elite playmaking, De Bruyne was much more precise with his finishing this campaign, scoring his best season tally for goals in his senior career.

VSA and H2H Gameplay

De Bruyne embodies the ideal attacking CM here, and he excels in multiple departments. He has probably one of the best, if not the best, passing ranges in the game. His ability to pick out through balls and execute them to perfection is second to none.

FM Stats UTOTS De Bruyne FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

Furthermore, De Bruyne has fantastic ball control, and his shots are absolutely lethal. Defensively, De Bruyne isn’t expected to play much of a role, though he can still track back well and win the ball back. All in all, this card is certainly made for only the top-end of teams.

Karim Benzema (ST)

  • Overall: 101
  • Requirement: 700 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Second Striker

Overview

Karim Benzema had a season that every player in the world dreams of having. With a series of incredible performances both in the league and in Europe, Benzema earned the respect of countless football fans across the planet. He guided his team to the La Liga title, and the UCL title, recording 42 goals and 14 assists – all in just 44 matches.

VSA and H2H Gameplay

Benzema often looks unstoppable in-game. He can score from anywhere in the final third, and can consistently hit powerful and pretty much un-saveable shots even from outside the box. On the ball, he is a fluid dribbler and he has that burst of speed too.

FM Stats UTOTS Benzema FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Starter

Benzema is a threat both on the ground and in the air. If that’s not enough, Benzema is a specialist in creating play too. He has an eye for a killer pass in his locker, and that really sums up this card – complete in all aspects. Those that are fortunate enough to get their hands on this guy are definitely in for a treat.
