The English Premier League is well and truly off and running and the same intensity is visible in the Fantasy Premier League as in the EPL table. After 9 exciting gameweeks and a rollercoaster of emotions, Chelsea sits at the top, but not comfortably at all, with Liverpool and Man City following closely behind. Surprisingly, but well-deserved, Brighton and West Ham complete the top 5. The season is finally taking a shape, and we all have come up to know the ones you can not miss out on in FPL teams. But those are not the ones who make you have the upper hand over your rival FPL managers, and that is where the differentials come to play. Here is a list of FPL GW10 Differentials 2021/22 that can bolster your squads ahead of gameweek 10.
FPL GW10 Differentials 2021/22
1. Illan Meslier (Goalkeeper) – 5.0 million
A side riddled with injuries has restricted Leeds from establishing themselves so far this season, currently sitting 17th with just 1 win. Fans will be pleased to see their next fixture though, as they visit Carrow Road to face Norwich. Only 2 teams have dropped points against Norwich, with the 2 draws against Brighton and Burnley being the only source of points so far. The Canaries have struggled at both ends of the pitch, ranking rock-bottom for both xG and XGA. It’s safe to say, any team playing against Norwich should be aiming for all 3 points.
Highlighting mainly Norwich’s attacking issues, as well as the worst xG, they also have the worst goals and shots on target per 90 as well. Leeds should not get tested too much this round, which is why their young goalkeeper, Illan Meslier could prove to be a strong differential with only 2.8% ownership. A clean sheet should be on the cards, and Meslier’s goalkeeping ability may score some more points in the next few matches. The Frenchman has an average of 3.78 saves per 90, which is enough for a further 1 extra point per game too.
2. Alvaro Fernandez (Goalkeeper) – 4.5 million
This is quite a straightforward one. With Brentford’s main man, David Raya out for the next 3/4 months, the goalkeeper spot is now up for grabs. Alvaro Fernandez is the current backup keeper and is expected to fill in for the fellow Spaniard.
With just 0.2% ownership, any return will prove greatly useful to your rank. The Bees inhabit a strong defense too, with the 2nd lowest xGA in the league, only bettered by Manchester City. That should further help the cause for Fernandez too.
3. Maxwel Cornet (Midfielder) – 6.0 million
Burnley‘s star signing from this window is starting to show what he’s capable of, Cornet scored both goals in the 2-2 draw against Southampton in GW9, already becoming the club’s top scorer this season with 3 goals – an average of 1.3 per 90. He also ranks top out of all other Burnley players for shots on target per 90 (2.17) and shot completion rate (71.4%). All this has contributed well to Cornet’s FPL profile, currently running a form of 5.3 points per game.
The fixtures are not too great for Burnley, with Brentford coming up in Gameweek 10. They’ve been a very strong team so far this season, but are currently under a little pressure. Their main number 1 is out for a few months in David Raya, and Pinnock, one of their starter defenders, is also a doubt. Perhaps the injuries may result in the Brentford Bees leaking in some goals in the next few weeks.
4. Rodrigo (Forward) – 6.3 million
The weaknesses of Norwich City have already been highlighted in the above section, however as well as the troubles with scoring goals, there’ve been issues protecting their own goal as well. Norwich has conceded 5.44 shots on target per 90, 2.56 goals per game, and the most touches in their own penalty area. With Raphinha flagged as a doubt for the fixture, there aren’t many promising assets from Leeds that can be used to take advantage of.
One of the remaining ones includes the 30-year-old Spaniard, Rodrigo Moreno. He managed 7 goals and 2 assists last season, but hasn’t found his form so far, only recording 1 goal. However, with Bamford and potentially Raphinha both out, the attacking responsibility will likely surround Rodrigo a bit more. Nonetheless, he is on penalties too, which is always a nice positive to look forward to.
5. Joshua King (Forward) – 5.6 million
King was one of the stars who helped turn the game around for Watford against his former club, scoring a hat-trick against Everton. Slowly but surely, the Danish forward is slowly approaching the limelight for FPL managers. King ranks in the top 2 for goals per 90, shots on target per 90, and expected goals per 90, but scoring isn’t the only thing he’s been good at. King’s expected assists and key passes are both also team-leading totals.
Despite only being owned by 2.2% of FPL managers, King is predicted to record 3.8 points in the next game, which is not bad at all considering a return could well be on the cards for him. Watford comes off the back of a 5-2 win against Everton to face Southampton at home, a fixture tagged as 2 on the fixture difficulty rating system and has conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game.
