The world cup-qualifiers are now coming to a close, meaning there will no longer be another international break right the way until March. That’s almost 5 months of uninterrupted Premier League madness! Only 9 points separate first-place Chelsea, and 6th placed United, and another 9 points between them, and Burnley, in the relegation zone at 18th. It’s fair to say, every position on the league table is up for grabs, for every team. Whilst the league is turning out to be an exciting sequence of events, the Fantasy Premier League scene is arguably building towards its peak. There’s an upcoming 10 gameweeks in the space of just 33 days approaching. Lots of games, lots of rotation, lots of drama! It’s highly advised to start preparing for that from now, and as usual, we’ve compiled a list of 5 differential players with under 5% ownership. These assets are risky, but highly rewarding, with each of their returns contributing greatly to your ranks. Here is a list of FPL GW12 Differentials 2021/22 that can bolster your squads ahead of gameweek 12.
FPL GW12 Differentials 2021/22
1. Christian Benteke (Forward) – 6.3 million
A name one doesn’t usually see crop up in terms of FPL assets is Crystal Palace forward, Christian Benteke. With just 1.4% ownership, he could become a decent differential striker pick, if he continues the fairly decent form. Benteke already has 2 goals, from an xG of 2.67, suggesting that he should be producing at a better rate. Furthermore, his xG per 90 of 0.36 is the highest of all Palace players, and his pretty respectable tally of 2.78 shots per 90, is the second-highest too. Across the last 4 gameweeks, Benteke has fired 13 shots in total, placing him up there at 3rd place for most shots in that period, of all FPL players.

Individually, the Belgian has done alright at best. But his potential as an FPL asset comes from the upcoming schedule for Palace. They play Burnley in Gameweek 12, who are positioned 12th on the league table, ranking 4th from the bottom for the worst xGA in the league. Over the course of the last 4 games, Burnley has ranked 3rd for xG conceded (7.4, ~2 goals expected to concede), as well as the 3rd most big chances conceded (11). Following the visit to Burnley, Palace will then face Villa, Leeds, and United. All 3 of those ranking in the bottom 8 for xGA across the course of the whole season.
2. Leandro Trossard (Midfielder) – 6.5 million
Trossard has arguably been an underrated spark for Brighton this season, recording 3 goals and 1 assist, but he is still sitting at ownership of 2.6%. The Belgian is on-form at the moment, with 19 points in the last 2 games, and will be looking to add to his tally of points in the coming weeks. He’s recorded an average of 2.9 shots per 90, 1.59 key passes per 90. He ranks 3rd of all FPL players for the most shots and the most shots (13), and the most shots on target (7) across the last 4 gameweeks. Trossard is expected to score 5.31 points in the next gameweek, putting him in the top 10 of all players in the league.

Coming up for Brighton in Gameweek 12 is Aston Villa at home. This is a fixture that should be a win for Brighton. Villa comes off the back of 5 losses in the last 5 games. Across the last 4 matches, they’ve faired poorly in almost all defensive statistics. This includes 11 goals conceded (worst), 24 shots on target conceded and 12 big chances conceded (both bottom 2). The good run doesn’t end there for Brighton. The Seagulls will be facing Leeds, West Ham, and Southampton in the following 3 weeks, with no top 6 teams in sight anytime soon.
3. Jarrod Bowen (Midfielder) – 6.3 million
Bowen has been quietly packing a punch this season, with 2 goals and 6 FPL assists. He’s blanked only once in the last 7 games and has averaged 6.6 points per game in that time. At such a bargain price and ownership of a mere 2.3%, it is difficult to complain. The Englishman averages 2.49 shots per 90, as well as 11 shots in the box across the last 4 weeks, the 3rd highest of all players. Furthermore, Bowen has totaled 5 big chances, 20 chances created and an average of 1.75 key passes per 90.

West Ham’s next fixture involves a visit to play Wolves in Gameweek 12. There’s no doubt, the Hammers will be looking to take all 3 points, after coming off the back of a successful 3-2 upset against Liverpool. Coincidentally, Bowen has scored more goals against Wolves, than against any other team in the competition. His last 2 appearances against the side, featuring 3 goals in total.
4. Emerson Royal (Defender) – 4.9 million
Summer-signing Emerson Royal has had an interesting start to the campaign, producing decently in the basic stats, but not producing anything of note. However, the introduction of Conte as manager saw Emerson shift up a level towards a more advanced RWB/RM position. Historically, this area of the pitch has been quite productive under Conte’s wing. This may be seen again with Emerson Royal taking that role. His attacking potential is yet to be seen, however, the Spurs defense has definitely improved since the recruitment of the new management. The side ranks 2nd for the least shots on target conceded (11) and 3rd for the least big chances conceded (5) all across the last 4 weeks.

The fixtures for Spurs are amongst the brightest of all teams in the league, with Leeds visiting Tottenham in Gameweek 12. Although the Leeds defense is on the recovery, the lack of star striker Patrick Bamford has had an impact on the goals production. They rank 3rd from the bottom for the least big chances (15) and expected goals scored for the whole season (11.7). Following the Leeds game, Spurs will face Burnley, Brentford, and then Norwich all in a row. 3 games, which are all winnable for a new look Spurs line-up.
5. Lucas Moura (Midfielder) – 6.4 million
Lucas Moura is another one of the players that have seen some more playing time in an advanced position under Antonio Conte’s tactical plan. He has played at RW for Spurs so far. Although yet to register a single goal contribution so far, he’s expected to do so soon, reaching an xG of 0.94 and an xA of 0.87. He averages 1.78 shots per 90 minutes and has created 11 chances in total, the second-highest of all Spurs players. In addition, his numbers of 9 shots in the box and 23 touches in the opposition area are also top 3 amongst the Tottenham squad.

Defensively, Tottenham’s opponents in gameweek 12, Leeds United, are on the improvement. However, viewing from their performance across the whole season, they sit in the bottom 6 for the worst xGA, and in the bottom 2 for most shots on target conceded (55). The fixtures after Leeds are also great, with Burnley, Brentford, and Norwich all featuring, with all 3 sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table as well.
