With such amazing new and exciting content that has been released this patch, it is not a surprise that we will be beginning a new chapter on the main storyline and continuing the Archon Quests. Genshin Impact Fontaine Archon Quest ACT II “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason”: In-Depth Review and Discussion
The second Archon Quest picks up right where it left off from the first one, with the Traveler and Paimon joining Navia to have a farewell and celebratory treat. This Archon Quest in particular focuses more on Navia and her ties with the missing disappearance case that she has been working on, which also got tied with Lyney’s court case from the previous Archon Quest.
Act II is all about helping Navia with the Disappearing cases as we unravel more secrets: who is the person who tried to frame Lyney for being the culprit of the missing disappearance cases, what is the Primordial seawater, and who has knowledge and access to it, what is the Fontaine Prophecy all about, Who is ‘Vacher’ that the Oceanid craves to reunite with, and lastly how do we help Navia from clearing her Father’s name that occurred 3 years ago?
Traveler’s Character Development
After eating with Navia, the Traveler promptly leaves followed by Paimon. It is surprising to see how jaded the Traveler has become, seeing as how they instantly refuse to help Navia with the case and do not look remorseful or guilty at all from this blatant rejection, even leaving Paimon feeling shocked. But we can’t help but empathize with the Traveler. This is a protagonist who has only one clear goal: finding their sibling.
Despite the friendships and companionship that they made along the way, it is no surprise that it will all crumble quickly once the Traveler finds their Abyssal sibling, someone who refuses to reunite with them. Helping nations upon nations with their trouble and getting no information on the whereabouts of their twin must’ve really sunken into the Traveler, which is why as we move forward to the story, the Traveler is almost always dismissed or seems reluctant to solve the Nation’s crises, which we don’t blame them.
Navia: The True Star of ACT II
Traveler aside, the star of this Archon Quest is no doubt Navia, president of the Spina Di Rosula. Her personality, attitude, backstory, and character development really shone through the entire quest. Act II of the Archon Quest felt more like a Navia’s Story Quest, which isn’t bad per se seeing as how it does tie into the grand scheme of things, especially with the theme of the whole plot: Justice. Navia is the second President of the Spina Di Rosula, the first being her father, Callas.
Navia explains her story and her ties with the missing disappearance case. Her father was working on the case and keeping a close eye on it, but soon after he got framed for murdering his friend, and then to bring honor he chose to start a duel instead of going through the court proceedings. He promptly died after dueling with Clorinde. This also explains to us why Navia was hostile towards Clorinde when she saved them during the Gardemek’s ambush.
Another noteworthy thing that we got to experience is the dynamic between Neuvillette and Navia. Coming from the first Archon quest, we knew very little about the Chief Justice. He seemed like a polite and serious man, who upholds the rules of the Court close to his heart.
This thought process causes a rift in viewpoints between him and Navia, which also ties into Callas’s case and verdict. Navia’s outburst at Neuvillette was very moving and emotional. Her headstrong nature of clearing her Father’s name proved to be successful and her reconciliation with Clorinde and especially the sweet scene between her and Neuvillette was an amazing conclusion to the story.
Final Thoughts
ACT II left on a great note, with no definitive cliffhangers. Of course, we still have the Prophecy in mind and we can’t wait to see how it plays out, seeing as though we have such little information about Furina. Neuvillette being the Hydro Sovereign was indeed a good twist to see.
Lastly, the most hyped part is seeing Arlecchino as we have gotten a snippet of how she is operating in Fontaine. Arlecchino is quite the fan favorite Harbinger. Seeing as how Tartaglia has been sentenced to prison and the internal Fontaine problems that is occurring, her entry to the story will be a grand one.
