Genshin Impact Fontaine Archon Quest ACT I “Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur”: In-Depth Review and Discussion

As we are halfway done with our story in Teyvat of finding our missing sibling, discovering the secrets of the world, and the fate of all the characters as we unravel the secrets, we have finally arrived at the next stop to our destination: Fontaine. Previously, the game’s World Quest, dialogues, and other miscellaneous content have given us a clue about what the Nation of Hydro is like on the surface and what crisis they are currently facing.

Previously, from all the lore content we have known about Fontaine, we know that the original Hydro Archon has died and since then Fontaine has been a disarray ever since the new Hydro Archon rose to power. This is exactly why all the Oceanids have all but left their homes, the water levels of the region are rising, and the class hierarchy and justice are becoming eschewed.

Main plot Set-up and Meeting the Twins

We start off the Archon Quest by getting ready to leave for Fontaine, with Dehya having aided us for the long journey. As we see a world-view on the Land of Hydro we have come to the conclusion about 1 thing: The land is elevated far above the rest of Teyvat’s regions and resides among an abundance of Waterfalls.

Once we reach the nearest docking area of Fontaine, we run into our first new Fontaine characters that will be playing crucial roles in the main storyline: Lyney and Lynette. Both twins have been established characters ever since the Travail trailer. Seeing them now we can gauge a bit on what their real personalities are like and get a read onto their dynamics.

Lyney initially gives an impression of a charming and friendly character who explains to the Traveler and us the players about the Prophecy that has been circulating around Fontaine for quite a while now. The Prophecy entails that the people from Fontaine are all born with ‘sin’ which cannot be forgiven. The sinful people will then be drowned in the depth of the seas as the water levels of Fontaine rises.

Only then the people will have their sins absolved as they transform into water, washed way into the oceans and only the Hydro Archon will remain crying to herself on her throne. As dark as the Prophecy is, it’s no doubt that it is becoming true seeing as how Lyney explains that the water levels are rising at an alarming pace.

Furina and Neuvillette: Character Dynamics

After briefly talking with both the twins and trying to explain to them that the Traveler wants to meet with the Hydro Archon, we shortly get introduced to said Archon in the most grandest and dramatic possible way. Out of all the Archons, this is indeed quite the most unique entry to one seeing as how the Archon herself chose to meet with the Traveler and took measures to greet them to the Nation. As for the first impression, Furina, also known as the Hydro Archon Focalors, has quite a dramatic flair to her antics.

She is very boisterous and theatrical as if her every move is supposed to be engaging and draw you into the drama of it all. She seems to be a people-pleaser, gauging the crowd’s reaction and feeding into their approval by being as unexpected as possible. It is quite amusing to see her true personality from time to time when she is doing internal monologues in her head, especially during the court proceedings.

Genshin Impact Fontaine Neuvillette

Neuvillette is also another character that stood out quite a lot in the first act. Despite not seeing him as much just like Furina. His personality and the role he plays in the story are quite interesting to see. From the theories and evidence, it is obvious that Neuvillette is not an ordinary human, but a possible reincarnation of the Hydro Dragon Sovereign, one of the 7 Elemental Sovereigns to exist.

The hints about the rain and the appearance all point out the possibility. Despite being the Chief Justice and having a lack of facial expressions, he seems quite the gentleman and someone that the Traveler can freely converse with and obtain information, unlike a certain Hydro Archon. It is also surprising to see the power dynamic between Neuvillette and Furina.

Despite being the Hydro Archon, she seems to act like the mascot of Fontaine, seeing as how Neuvillette does all the important work while she enjoys the show. Nevertheless, Furina still stood out the most out of the rest in the most interesting and amusing way and we cannot wait for more and what her back story has in store for us in the future acts. Navia is also another great character which was introduced later in the ACT, but we will be discussing more about her in the second ACT since she really shined the most in there.

Final Thoughts

Overall, ACT I is a great first ACT to quickly start the main story and give us a general idea of how the plot will go in the future acts. The whole court trial and playing as an Attorney for Lyney’s false accusation was entertaining and refreshing to play out and gave off major “Ace Attorney” and “Danganronpa” vibes. The re-introduction of a previous Antagonist slash friend, Tartaglia, was great to witness. Seeing as how his Hydro vision does not work and the fact that he has trusted us to take it raises a major flag to his fate which will be exciting to see in the future.
