Honkai: Star Rail Castorice Build Guide: Best Relics, Light Cone, Team Comps, and more

Castorice kit explanation, relics, light cones, team comps and more!

Story Highlights
  • Castorice is a 5-Star Quantum Remembrance unit and is one of the Chrysos Heirs!
  • Castorice is shaping up to be one of the strongest DPS units in the game yet!
  • Castorice has a unique global passive which acts like a one-time emergency revive, giving fallen allies a second chance if quickly healed or shielded!

The Version 3.2 update of Honkai: Star Rail releases the much-anticipated 5-star character Castorice. Castorice is a Quantum character following the Path of Remembrance. This Honkai: Star Rail Castorice Build Guide will help you get the most out of her abilities by offering a detailed breakdown of her skills and recommending the best configurations to optimize her performance.

Castorice Gameplay

Castorice is the first Quantum Remembrance unit, and she’s all about summoning her awesome dragon buddy, Netherwing, to wreck enemies. Think of her as a DPS who doesn’t just hit hard herself, she brings in a giant dragon to do most of the heavy lifting!

First off, her stats are pretty interesting. She has the highest base HP in the game (even more than Mydei!), but the rest of her stats aren’t super important. When building her, you’ll want to focus on leveling up her Memosprite Skill and Talent first, then her Ultimate and Talent, and you can skip her basic attack since she doesn’t rely on it much.

Skill

Castorice’s Skill plays a big role. Normally, it consumes 30% of all allies’ current HP to deal blast damage and charge her Ultimate. But when Netherwing is out, her skill upgrades—it becomes an AoE Joint ATK (like Aglaea’s) and consumes 40% of allies’ HP to heal Netherwing instead. You’re feeding your team’s health to the dragon so it can keep breathing fire!

Netherwing itself has two attacks:

  • Claw Attack â€“ A simple AoE hit.
  • Scorch Breath â€“ The real star. It eats 25% of Netherwing’s max HP to deal huge AoE damage, and each consecutive breath gets stronger. If Netherwing drops below 25% HP, its final breath reduces it to 1 HP and triggers a massive multi-hit bounce attack.

The trick is managing Netherwing’s HP—you want to keep it alive long enough to unleash multiple breaths, so using Castorice’s skill and team healing to refuel it is key. And when Netherwing finally leaves (after 3 turns or when its HP hits 1), it heals your whole team as a thank-you for all the HP sacrifices.

Ultimate

Now, the real star of the show is Netherwing, her dragon summon. Unlike other summons that stick around forever, Netherwing comes and goes. You summon it using Castorice’s Ultimate, which also creates a cool “domain expansion” called Lost Netherland.

Inside this domain, enemies get 20% All-Type RES reduction, making them take way more damage. Netherwing itself is a beast—it has 165 SPD (super fast!) and 34,000 HP (which matches Castorice’s max Newbud energy).

But how do you get your Ultimate ready to summon Netherwing? That’s where Newbud comes in. Newbud is Castorice’s special energy (like how Feixiao and Acheron have their unique resources). You fill it up in two ways:

Honkai Star: Rail Castorice

  • Allies losing HP â€“ Every point of HP lost by your team gives 1 Newbud point.
  • Allies getting healed â€“ Her Ascension 2 passive converts healing into Newbud, but only up to 12% of the max per ally (so 4,080 per heal).

Once Netherwing is summoned, things change. Instead of gaining Newbud, any HP loss or healing from allies now heals Netherwing instead. This is super important because Netherwing’s strongest attack, Scorch Breathconsumes its own HP to deal massive damage. The more HP it has, the more times it can use this attack before exploding in a final, super-powerful move.

Talent and Technique

Castorice also has some neat extras:

  • Technique â€“ Let’s her start battle with Netherwing already summoned (saving you from charging Newbud).
  • Global Passive â€“ A one-time “delay death” effect for allies, giving them a second chance if they’re healed or shielded fast enough.
  • Self-Buffs â€“ She gets DMG boosts when allies lose HP, 40% SPD when above half HP, and Netherwing gets extra SPD if it wipes out a wave of enemies.

Honkai Star Rail Castorice Best Relics and Planar Ornaments

When choosing relics for Castorice, it’s essential to focus on maximizing her damage and survivability capabilities. In this section of the Honkai: Star Rail Castorice Build Guide, we will discuss what relics, main stats, and planar ornaments you need to focus on for Castorice.

  • Body (Crit DMG%>HP)
  • Feet (HP)
  • Planar Spear (HP> DMG)
  • Link Rope (HP)

Relic Set

Poet of Mourning CollapseThis set is made for Castorice as the 4-piece set is powerful for her. It gives her 32% Crit Rate and 10% extra DMG, which is huge for her damage output.

Normally, this set would slow her down since it requires her to have less than 135 SPD, but Castorice cheats this with her passive—when her HP is above 50%, she gets +40% SPD, letting her stay fast and keep the full Poet set bonus
Scholar Lost in Erudition/Longevous DiscipleThey’re okay, but they just can’t compete with the raw power of the full Poet set.

Planar Ornaments

Firmament Frontline: GlamothIf you can hit the SPD thresholds
Talia: Kingdom of BanditryIf you’re running Break Effect, though, this is niche
Sprightly VonwacqIf you want early Ultimates

Honkai Star Rail Castorice Best Light Cone

Castorice is a bit tricky when it comes to free-to-play (F2P) options because most of the 4-Stars and 3-Stars Light Cones don’t work well with her kit. Unlike some other DPS characters, she doesn’t have a great F2P alternative, so pulling for her signature Light Cone is highly recommended if you want her to perform at her best.

Make Farewells More Beautiful (Castorice 5* Light Cone)Her best-in-slot weapon is hands-down her signature Light Cone, “Netherwing’s Oath” (S1). This thing is tailor-made for her, packing a ton of base HP to make Netherwing hit harder, a max HP% buff to push her damage even further, and a massive 30% DEF Ignore that boosts all her attacks, including her dragon’s.

On top of that, it gives her Advance Forward when Netherwing dies, which helps fix her otherwise sluggish speed. The difference between this and the next-best option is huge—we’re talking about a 44% damage increase. If you’re serious about using her, this is the Light Cone to go for.
Sweat Now, Cry Less (4*)The next best choice is the Battle Pass Light Cone, “Sweat Now, Cry Less.” This one gives a solid 24% Crit DMG boost and has high base HP, which helps with Netherwing’s scaling. The catch?

If you’re already stacking tons of Crit Rate (from her Poet relic set, traces, or supports), you might end up overcapping (going past 100% Crit Rate), which wastes stats. It’s still a strong option, but it’s not quite as good as her signature.

If you want Castorice at her best, go for her signature S1 Light Cone. If that’s not an option, the Battle Pass Light Cone is a decent alternative, and if you’re strapped for resources, just prioritize high base HP on whatever weapon you give her. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.

Best Team Comps for Castorice in Honkai Star Rail

Best Sustainers for Castorice

Castorice thrives in teams that can handle her unique playstyle, which revolves around constantly draining and healing her team’s HP to fuel her ultimate and keep her dragon, Netherwing, in the fight.

Since her entire kit depends on health fluctuations, the best sustain units for her are Gallagher and Luocha. Gallagher stands out as her top healer because his on-attack healing means every time an ally hits an enemy, whether through normal attacks, skills, or follow-ups, the team gets a burst of healing, which directly translates into more energy for Castorice.

Luocha is another excellent choice since his automatic healing field ensures constant HP recovery, making energy generation smooth and reliable. While other healers like Bailu or Lynx can work, they’re not as efficient because they rely on turn-based healing rather than instant triggers, which slows down Castorice’s energy gain.

Best Supports for Castorice

For supports, Castorice pairs best with characters who either buff her damage or attack frequently to trigger more healing. Tribbie is her strongest support, offering universal buffs with no downtime, high attack frequency through follow-ups, and Quantum synergy for breaking shields.

At E1, Tribbie becomes even more powerful, further boosting Castorice’s single-target damage. Remembrance MC (RMC) is another fantastic option, especially since they’re free. RMC’s summoned memosprite counts as an extra ally for healing and HP consumption, and their frequent attacks help battery Castorice’s energy, making them particularly strong in Pure Fiction.

Sunday is a high-investment alternative that provides strong Crit DMG buffs, but it requires careful speed tuning to ensure its buffs align with Netherwing’s uptime. Other supports like Ruan Mei, Pela, or Jiaoqiu can work, but don’t offer the same level of synergy as Tribbie or RMC.

Ultimately, her best team is a hypercarry setup with Tribbie, RMC, and Gallagher or Luocha, as this maximizes her damage output in both Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction. However, she’s flexible enough to work in dual DPS comps or with Sunday for players who prefer a more burst-oriented playstyle. If you’re planning to build around Castorice, prioritizing Tribbie and a strong on-attack healer will give you the most consistent results, but experimenting with Blade or Mydei can also be fun and effective in the right scenarios.

Is Castorice worth pulling in HSR

If you enjoy high-skill, high-reward gameplay that involves managing HP drain and healing mechanics, Castorice is a fantastic and fun choice. She’s especially valuable if you need a strong Quantum DPS or want a unit that performs well in both MoC and Pure Fiction.

However, if you’re looking for a completely self-sufficient hypercarry who doesn’t rely on specific teammates, she might feel restrictive. Additionally, if you’re missing key supports like Tribbie or Gallagher, her performance won’t be as dominant. Ultimately, Castorice is worth pulling if you like her playstyle and are willing to invest in her team.

She’s not a must-pull in the way some universally broken DPS units are, but she’s a high-tier option with a unique and satisfying kit. If you’re on the fence, waiting to see how she performs in future non-buffed endgame content might be wise—but if you’re a fan of flashy dragon summons and dynamic HP-based combat, she’s a strong addition to any account.
