One of the key decisions managers have to make is picking the line-up before a matchday in Soccer Manager. Who to drop, who to consider, who to replace, so many factors are present which impact the choice of 11 players that start the game from the first kick-off. There’s no doubt, injuries and suspensions will crop up as well, which will force replacements of those that perhaps would be the first names on the eleven-man list in the first place. What could make the situation even worse? Well, then comes the possible realization that there are few other players that can fill in that position without an orange displaced player marker. That’s where the utility players come in, these are versatile players that can play a wide range of different positions, meaning they will come in handy as very useful squad depth. Here in this article, we will share the list of the top 10 best such utility and versatile players who can play in any position in Soccer Manager 2022.
10 Best Utility Players who can play in any Position in Soccer Manager 2022
It can be a good idea to buy at least one or two of these versatile and utility players in Soccer Manager 2022 if they aren’t present in your club already. They don’t necessarily need to be starter players, but are brilliant for rotation in more ways than one.
1. Michail Antonio – 11 million
Antonio famously made the switch from being a right wingback to a striker and he’s been a great asset for West Ham since then. Unfortunately, the Jamaican can’t go as far back as in defense, but he can still cover the majority of the attack and can fill in for the wide midfield roles as well. In addition, his current role and age at the With 5 years on his contract, it will be difficult to sign the Jamaican, but the experience he brings along with the versatility, this could be a great signing.
2. Bukayo Saka – 35 million
A lot have money will have to be paid to get a hold of the 19-year-old wonderkid, Bukayo Saka. His high potential easily makes him a potential future star, making this a crazy signing just because of that. However, as well as bringing quality and youth talent, Saka brings versatility as well, especially considering how much time it will take to decode what positions the English youngster can play in.
When he first made his breakthrough into first-team football at Arsenal, Saka filled in at LB, before switching over the attacking wings, but in SM22, it’s be nice to see that he can still play in the defensive position. Obviously, Saka would be much best off on your wings, where he can play on either side, but there’s the extra added depth behind the LB position too, which may come in handy too. Although not specifically a utility player signing, this would be a perfect all-in-one package.
3. Jakub Moder – 9.75 million
Moder can play anywhere in the middle of the pitch, be it DMC, MC, or AMC, and there’s also the extra LM thrown in there too. If that’s not enough, the Brighton man is comfortable with both feet as well. With nicely rounded stats and the balanced General Midfielder role, fitting Moder into the starting line-up when the need comes should be pretty easy. All in all, this is a great rotation player to have in the club, providing depth in the whole middle third.
4. Danzell Gravenberch – 750k
Now moving into the more road-to-glory centered signings, Gravenberch (not the wonder kid!) is one of the very few players that can literally play anyway along the center of the pitch. He covers DC, DMC, MC, AMC, and FC, meaning he can literally play in every third of the pitch.
What’s more, both his feet are equally as strong too. The only downside to this card is, of course, the quality of it. A 56 rated player is never a good asset considering the long term, however for the lower tier teams, this would be a dream utility player signing.
5. Aleksandr Erokhin – 5.25 million
Erokhin can play in a huge range of positions, including pretty much all of the midfield except on the AML/R, and is capable of going in front of goal too. Whilst being two-footed, the rating of 71 makes this purchase perfect for the mid-tier clubs, as a rotation player. His age will bring experience and some useful leadership, and the price shouldn’t have a huge impact either.
6. Filip Marchwinski – 2.25 million
Yet another name unlikely to be heard of by many, Marchwinski is a solid squad player, capable of filling for various parts of the midfield, and also upfront if need be. He is sat at a 56 overall rating, but the price of 2.25 million suggests that there might be some potential hidden in the 19-year-old. Nevertheless, it should be relatively easy convincing him to join a lower-level club, and with one of the backup roles.
7. Pavel Maslov – 6 million
It’s always useful to have a player that can reliably cover the entirety of the defense, and Maslov can do just that. This is a great signing for a mid-tier club, because of the 66 overall rating. At just 21 years of age as well, Maslov can cover anywhere in a back 4 or even a back 5, be it in the center, on the sides, or slightly advanced at DML/R too.
8. Lukas Klostermann – 33.5 million
As said for the previous player, it’s always useful to have someone that can fill in for all the defensive positions. If Pavel Maslov didn’t quite suit the club’s standards, perhaps Klostermann is a better option. He can fill in for the same positions, but will obviously be much more of a statement signing.
Priced at 33.5 million with an overall of 84, with another 5 years on the current contract, signing this guy will be tough to say the least. However, he will easily be a brilliant starter and useful squad player too.
9. Riechedly Bazoer – 9.75 million
Flashback to the days of Ronald Koeman and Franz Beckenbauer, where central defenders could hit goals better than attackers. Although that kind of versatility isn’t as common nowadays, it is still tucked away hidden within undercover gems. Take Bazoer as an example. His long shot ability of 75 is his best technical attribute, even better than his defensive ones.
Although classed as a defender, the Dutchman can cover the central midfield and even AMC. That is of course, not ideal, but the option is there regardless. He does have 5 years on his contract, which could make singing him tougher, but he’d be a great addition to a mid-tier club, even one of the top-flight ones as well.
10. Bobby Dercodovoa-Reid – 5.5 million
Versatility in attack is another key thing to look out for. It can be really useful to have a player or 2, that can reliably fill in for any of the attacking positions, and Decordova-Reid can do just that.
At 70 rated, the Jamaican can cover basically the whole of the attacking half of the pitch, able to play from midfield upwards. With just 2 years left on the contract and the fact that Fulham was just relegated to the Championship in the season prior, the price shouldn’t be too hefty.
