Sony has recently filed a Japanese patent for a brand new mobile gaming controller. Based on the features, the controller seems like a mobile variation of the Dualshock controllers that fit onto your mobile and provide you all the controls and buttons that the Dualshock 4 has but with the slot for a smartphone to be held in instead of a touchpad. The patent was filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. on November 25.
A dedicated mobile gaming controller from Sony is in the works
The controller supposedly comes with gyroscopic sensors, accelerometers, vibration motors and offers wireless and wired pairing. The features are still not very clearly mentioned but the images do give off quite a bit of information regarding the design and internals.

The controller has “a left-side grip portion and a right-side grip portion” that players can hold onto along with “a shaft portion that can be tilted by the user, and detect the tilting direction and tilting amount of the shaft portion”.
Considering the recent job post that Sony put up for a Director to head their Mobile Division and a Head of Mobile along with Sony’s interest in bringing their AAA titles to mobile, a controller to go with it ties in pretty well with their plans. While nothing has been stated officially by Sony regarding the controllers yet aside from the patent itself.
That being said, Sony does seem like it’s pretty serious about entering the mobile gaming sphere. Similar mobile controllers like the Razer Kishi and even the Dualshock 4 that can connect to smartphones are available in the market now but a mobile-exclusive device from Sony is a very big deal and we’ll hopefully be hearing more about it in the future.
