ÁRIDA: Backland’s Awakening, an adventure game set in the Brazilian hinterlands, has just been released for iOS by the Bahian developer, Aoca Game Lab. The PC version was published in 2019, while the Android version was made available in June, kicking off the mobile trip.
Because of community requests, Aoca decided to release it for iOS after reaching a new audience with the Google Play debut. The Bahian company now openly targets the console industry as a series of multiplatform games to continue the product expansion cycle.
ÁRIDA: Backland’s Awakening opens doors to new audiences on iOS devices
Aoca was the only Brazilian startup chosen to take part in a class at Apple’s Entrepreneur Camp, an internal training program designed for platform newcomers, weeks before the debut. This chance hastened the porting process and opened up significant doors for the series’ future on iOS.
With the exception of interface and user experience tweaks, as well as extensive optimization work that enabled a good performance for the game, the version for mobile phones and tablets does not significantly differ from the PC version, in terms of gameplay. It is important to note the iOS version’s Game Center features, which includes the ability to share game progress and achievements with friends and family.
The long-awaited ÁRIDA 2: Rise of the Brave, the series’ continuation, will debut in 2023 along with the console release of ÁRIDA: Backland’s Awakening. The game will also feature a changed Cicera and a more experienced Aoca, as part of the series’ internationalization aspirations. Players can now download ÁRIDA: Backland’s Awakening from the App Store.
