Clash of Clans now has a separate server for China

New server for maintaining the rules of the nation!

Clash of Clans is the famous online freemium game from Supercell Games in the market. It has played its own role in changing the mobile gaming dynamics and taking it to another level. As per the government regulations laid down by the Chinese government, a regular technical upgrade has removed Chinese players from clans that were formed on other servers and also removed foreign players from clans formed on Chinese servers. Thus, the newer regulations have forced Clash of Clans to create a separate server for China.

Launched back in 2013, Clash of Clans is one of the biggest and most celebrated games in the past decade. Avid gamers from China woke up to the shocking developments in Clash, as all of their hard work in grinding the trophies and etc, had gone in vain. They were no longer a part of clans that were founded by their overseas friends. This resulted in panic across the community and also gave rise to speculations of the game being banned. Chinese players were seen demanding a return of the global chat on the official Twitter handle of Clash of Clans.

Clash of Clans: Effect created by the new regulations

These regulations have forced Chinese players to play on servers within their country. These are not new, as they existed before China became a huge market for mobile gaming. Loopholes in these regulations did allow players to still play mobile games on foreign servers and interact with players across the world. Despite these regulations, players used to randomly match with players overseas and share data as well.

Several games followed the same strategy and has interconnected global servers, which allowed players to play with players, other than that of their country. This mainly happened in online multiplayer strategy games, where internet latency does not hinder the player experience. But, the newer regulations have now forced Clash of Clans to host a separate server for just Chinese players, where they cannot match with any overseas players.

Clash of Clans: Reasons behind such an enforcement

Chinese government officials have been tracking down on gaming and Esports extensively, since the last few years. Stringent restrictions have been placed on video games, which makes it very hard for companies to stay in the Chinese market. Companies that want to operate in China should set up a local server. This can only be done by getting an ICP( Internet Content Provider) license from Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), which has become increasingly hard in the last few years following newer rules. These regulations have forced games like Fortnite Mobile to shut down their Chinese servers. EVE online also had to make a specific Chinese server, apart from its global server because of these regulations.

Thus, Chinese officials had put a halt on game publishing for almost 8 months, as they brought newer rules and regulations for mobile gaming and Esports. Anybody under the age of 18 years is banned from competing in Esports in China. Players under 18 cannot play games for more than 3 hours a week.

Limited hours available to minors for gaming

According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, the video gaming service is only available to minors on Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays, along with public holidays between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Barring these hours, the gaming company cannot provide the services to minors. Chinese officials have stated addiction as a reason for these regulations.

Being a foreigner in China, I have nothing much to complain here, despite the one related to this COC. Since recent update of servers, I lost access to my COC Account connected to iPhone Game Center. I was max TH14 and had been playing the game since 2015, but I’m banned recently, and have no other login methods connected to that account. I contacted COC, but they can’t do anything about it as my account has been moved to some Chinese KunLun server, I have no access recently. And new COC Chinese version available on Apple store only has supported… Read more »

I really feel bad for you. I am not exactly sure why did this happen but this is probably because of the strict regulations from the Chinese government. As a CoC player myself, I understand how hard it is to lose an account but I can’t help you here except to sympathize. 🙁

You can use WeChat to login and create new account ,after that you find Chinese CS to recover your account but you no more at international server, only can play at Chinese server

Your account is not lost. I joined a Chinese clan and suddenly I am clan leader and only member in the clan! I think CoC split the clan into two.
Try using proxy to retrieve your account.

Same here bro. Maxed out th14 with lots of extra items, league medals and gems. I’ve been playing the game since 2013 first came out on Android. After the February update, my account was banned. Can’t access until now. Need new method to sign in which I don’t even know, and I don’t speak Chinese either so RIP to my lovely CoC account. 😢😡
