Activision Blizzard’s Q4 2021 earnings call revealed that COD Mobile made more than $1 billion in revenue through consumer spending. The official report says, “Call of Duty Mobile net bookings grew year-over-year in the fourth quarter, driven by continued contribution from the game in China. For the full year, Call of Duty Mobile net bookings grew strongly, with 2021 worldwide consumer spending on the title exceeding $1 billion.” The earnings call also confirmed the arrival of a new Warcraft title this year.
CODM is seeing more growth than other COD games
This contributed quite a lot to the net revenues of Activision in 2021 ($8.80 billion) even though COD didn’t do as impressive on PC and consoles, where net bookings declined since COD Warzone saw lower engagement rates and COD Vanguard didn’t sell as well. CODM’s release in China seems to have been a pivotal move that boosted the game’s sales by a good amount. CODM had reported good growth during the 2020 Q4 Earnings Report as well.

The numbers speak for themselves and Activision’s investment in the mobile gaming sphere is certainly showing its returns. No wonder other AAA studios are bringing their popular franchises to mobile because there’s a lot of space here for solid profits.
King’s portfolio, especially the Candy Crush franchise which was again the top-grossing franchise in the US, also reported growth and earned more than a billion dollars in annual operating income.
“I’m so incredibly proud of our teams for their commitment and passion as we continued to engage the world through epic entertainment in 2021. As we look to the future, with Microsoft’s scale and resources, we will be better equipped to grow existing franchises, launch new potential franchisees, and unlock the rich library of games we have assembled over 40 years. Our 370 million players around the world and workplace excellence remain our focus,” said Activision’s CEO, Bobby Kotick.
