Digimon: Source Code is shutting down on January 2026, without ever getting a global release

Unexpected shut down!

Story Highlights
  • Digimon: Source Code shuts down in China, ending service on January 26, 2026.
  • Game removed from stores in November 2025 with all purchases and registrations closing.
  • The China-exclusive RPG never received a global launch despite years of development.

Digimon: Source Code is officially shutting down, and it’s honestly a disappointing end for a game many of you hoped would one day go global. The team confirmed that service will completely end on January 26, 2026, bringing the journey to a close after a relatively short run in China.

According to the announcement, Digimon: Source Code will be removed from all platforms on November 26, 2025. From that moment, downloads, registration, new character creation, and in-game purchases will all be shut off. Once January 26, 2026, arrives, the servers will go offline for good.

The shut down of Digimon: Source Code might be attributed to poor performance

For many of you who followed this game for years, this news hits a bit harder because Digimon: Source Code had a pretty long buildup. Back in December 2021, it ran a closed beta in China, giving players their first look. Then, in July 2023, the game also appeared at ChinaJoy.

It wasn’t until April 2025 that the full mobile launch finally happened, but still only in China. From the house of Bandai Namco, the title was developed by Bandai Namco (Shanghai) and Kingnet, and officially licensed by Toei Animation.

The gameplay itself had some genuinely interesting ideas. At its core, it was a turn-based RPG, but the developers added exploration mechanics and a few idle elements to make progression smoother. One of the standout features was that you could explore freely without stamina limits.

Amid all this, the game is now shutting down. For many players, this isn’t a surprise, because a few months ago, people were already expecting it due to the game’s poor revenue, even though it hadn’t even been out for half a year.
