After 2 years of the release, the developers, ForwardWorks Corporation, and publisher, Boltrend Games will be aiming for a shut down of the English servers of Disgaea RPG. The announcement of the shutdown was made on the official Facebook page of the game. The team expressed their sadness but didn’t come up with any reason for the shutdown of the English servers.

The developers have ensured that the game will shut down on May 12th, 2 years and 1 month after it launched on April 13, 2021, worldwide. While expressing sadness and difficulty in making this decision, the developers did not reflect much on the reason for the decision. The game will be unavailable on platforms on May 12th and the in-app purchases will be disabled after April 19th.
The shutdown of Disgaea RPG still comes as a shock for some, given that it was one of the established names in the JRPG genre. In spite of the official reason behind the shutdown not being revealed by the official team, some fans believe that underwhelming sales number and a dwindling fan base has to be the reason behind the decision. Given the success the series had altogether and the 7th entry due out later this year, it’s safe to say that the mobile rendition wasn’t able to simulate the same success as the series.
While the English server of the game is shutting down, the Japanese server will be continuing along with new updates. For those who might not know, Disgaea RPG is a mobile game adaptation of Nippon Ichi Software’s Disgaea Franchise, bringing the series’ team-based RPG battles to mobile.
The game also introduced a lot o original characters from the series which had seen a lot of success and hoped for the same success for the mobile version, however by the looks of it it seems that the same was not accomplished. The Chinese server was shut down on December 30, 2022, and now on 12th May, the English servers will meet the same fate.
