The Electronic Arts (EA) Q2 2022 earnings conference call was held on 3 November 2021 where EA CEO Andrew Wilson talked about the future of NFT and blockchain in the gaming industry. In the future, EA is planning to adopt “collectible digital content” including NFTs as a definite part of its evolving strategies. However, the future is not near as all the plans are still in an early stage. EA had stated this in their Q2 2022 conference call and as per their claim, they are still to figure out how the digital collectives are going to work.
The future of mobile gaming incorporating NFT and blockchain
The mobile gaming industry is already in a strong position and has a big share in the total gaming market. Leaving the developer and publisher aside, gamers are now more focused than ever on building a career in mobile esports. The rise of this career culture is spreading rapidly in the world but in Asia, especially in India and Southeast Asia, the rise is significant to notice.
According to a report by Statista the monetary value of the mobile gaming market is expected to hit $268 billion by 2025 where the current market is $178 billion. So, it is clear that a significant change is happening in this sector.
Some popular NFT based mobile games
When it comes to mobile games with NFT and blockchain-based transactions, players are getting the controls of digital assets in the game, and they have the chance to increase the value them to sell later. Mobile games have already met this as we’ve seen games like Thetan Arena, Trivia Crack that offer NFT to their players.
Everything is currently under the Planning stage
EA hasn’t stepped into the NFT and blockchain-based gaming system yet. But the CEO of EA said that the collectible digital content and NFTs is going to play a “meaningful” part, and they’re in a “good position” to incorporate crypto-based in-game transactions whether it is play-to-earn or win-to-earn. Considering blockchain gaming in the future, EA surely will feel the urge to step into the new and highly potential world.
