Electronic Arts has confirmed that EA SPORTS FC Tactical is being shut down, with the game officially going offline on May 7, 2026. The announcement was shared directly with the community, confirming that the turn-based football strategy title will be sunset less than a year after its wider regional launch.
EA SPORTS FC Tactical started its journey under a different name. Originally released in early access as Tactical Football, the game was later rebranded and folded into EA’s new EA SPORTS FC ecosystem. The official FC Tactical version launched in select Asian regions in May 2024, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, on both Android and iOS.
Staying stuck in a regional launch phase didn’t help FC Tactical
The game aimed to mix football with turn-based tactical gameplay, offering a slower, strategy-focused alternative to EA SPORTS FC Mobile. While the idea was interesting on paper, it never quite found a strong footing with a wider audience, especially as EA continued to push its core football titles more aggressively.
I mentioned aggressively because, the game stayed on “regional launch” phase. It will do more harm than good for any game. By limiting access, you’re automatically cutting off a massive portion of potential players who might have embraced it.
What could go wrong in trying? It could have found an audience globally, but restricting its reach wasn’t a smart move. When a game stays in that state for over a year without progress, it’s hard to expect a different outcome.
As part of the shutdown process, in-app purchases have already been disabled, and the game has been removed from digital storefronts. If you already have FC Tactical installed, you can continue playing for now, but only until the shut down date, when the servers will be taken offline permanently.
In its message to players, EA thanked the community for their support and encouraged fans to continue their football journey through EA SPORTS FC Mobile and the upcoming EA SPORTS FC 26, where the company’s focus will now remain.
For now, if you’re still playing FC Tactical, you’ve got until May 7, 2026, to finish your matches before the final whistle blows.
