eFootball PES 2021 publishers KONAMI has announced via their official Twitter handle about the UEFA EURO 2021 which will make its return next year. Following the success of the event which was held last year, the UEFA Governing body has decided to tie up with PES again to host the biggest national team competition across all gaming platforms. To clarify your doubts, we have compiled all the necessary information in this article.
About the EURO 2021 event
Just like last year, the pattern of the matches will be the same. As with its successful predecessor, UEFA EURO 2021 will be played exclusively on KONAMI’s eFootball PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE. Each participating national association will compete with a national eFootball team comprising between two and four players, who will represent their country in this European event. Here’s what the UEFA Events SA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein had to say:
“The UEFA eEURO has given eFootball enthusiasts the chance to dream of representing their country on the biggest stage. The inaugural UEFA eEURO was an undoubted success, with over 15 million people having watched competition footage across UEFA’s platforms. We have seen massive growth in the popularity of eFootball over the past few years and eEURO 2021 will continue to give us the opportunity to connect with new and existing fans of national team football.”
Format and Schedule
The format will be similar to that of the UEFA EURO 2020 event last season as well as the original event starts from a qualification phase and then the final tournament. Between November and December 2020, each National Association will nominate their team, with participants chosen through a domestic online or ‘physical’ tournament unless a national eFootball team already exists.
An official draw will then be made to divide the competing countries into groups for the online qualification stage. According to plans, teams will set to qualify for the final tournament in London on the dates 9-10 July. In this phase, every team will play two matches against the other sides in their group. The team with the highest overall aggregate score will be the winner. The winner of each group and the best six runners-up will qualify for the final tournament that is scheduled to be held in London, UK.
Matchday events for non-competitors in PES 2021
However, for those who are not competing, especially mobile players, will get to experience the European Matchday event. It will feature 55 European Nations, where they play against other users to accumulate points for their selected squads on their devices. Just like last year, the EURO 2021 matchday event follows a similar format as of the official real-life tournament. Players can earn scouts, coins, trainers, and agents while playing this. However, the expectations are that it will kickstart during the same period. For the format and other details, you can refer to the below article:
