EA removes Mason Greenwood from FIFA Mobile 22 over rape allegations

The Greater Manchester Police recently arrested Greenwood on suspicions of the rape and assault of his ex-girlfriend

With the recent database update, Electronic Arts has removed all links with Manchester United player, Mason Greenwood, from within both FIFA 22 (console) and FIFA Mobile 22. This includes cards on the market, availability from packs, and from offline Manchester United squads. The Greater Manchester Police recently arrested Greenwood on suspicions of the rape and assault of his ex-girlfriend; he is currently suspended from all football and his business partners have halted deals as well.

Just recently, the news broke out across social media where graphic images and audio clips came to light. Manchester United released an official statement saying the player will no longer play or train with the club “until further notice”. Following this, the police took swift action by taking the 20-year-old into custody.

In addition, further news was released when Greenwood was rearrested for suspicion of threats to kill. He will remain under police custody until further notice. Until then, Manchester United will not sell any merchandise labeled with Mason Greenwood on their official websites. Sportswear giants Nike have also suspended their deal with the player pending further information.

Mason Greenwood will not be available in FIFA Mobile 22 anymore

Searching for Mason Greenwood in the FIFA Mobile 22 market will come to no avail, as EA has removed him completely. In addition, Greenwood is also unobtainable from all packs and rewards as well. There is now no way to obtain any of his cards. Those who already own it will come to find that it is now “unauctionable“. This means it is no longer possible to list the card on the market. However, players can still remove the card from their clubs in various ways, such as by using it as training XP.

Greenwood will also not feature in the offline “vs comp” matches against Manchester United. Usually, he would have been in the starting XI/ bench but that will no longer be the case. Finally, EA had originally scheduled a special New Beginnings event card, to release in the coming days. Now, instead of a Greenwood card, it will now be a special card for Jadon Sancho. Information about this card can be found here.

This isn’t the first time EA has carried out these kinds of procedures. Previously, former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy was removed from the game database after accounts of rape and sexual assault in August last year. A non-crime-related incident occurred in 2019, where the sad passing of Emiliano Sala lead to EA taking similar action.
