Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier: Square Enix’s battle royale to shut down from January 2023

The free to play battle royale game will be shutting operations from next year!

Square Enix has announced that their battle royale game, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier will be shut down on January 11, 2023. The game was released for mobile devices in November 2021. The game is free to play and is currently available for Android and iOS devices.

It was first announced by Square Enix on February 26, 2021. Since then the developers held a closed beta test and invited pre-registrations which led up to the release of the game.

The developers of the game have released updates for four consecutive seasons since the game’s release. The game is designed by Tetsuya Nomura who is known for his artwork in the Final Fantasy series. Development work on the game was done by Ateam Entertainment and Square Enix. The latter is also the publisher of the game and the entire Final Fantasy IP (Intellectual Property)

Square Enix announced on Twitter that they will be shutting down operations of the game at the beginning of 2023. The in-game currency of the game Shinra Credits will not be available in the in-game shop after today’s announcement. However, players can use those credits they already own until the service ends in January 2023.

Non-English language support in the game will close down from November 1, 2022. However, English language support will be available until the game shuts down officially. The developers and publisher of the game, Square Enix confirmed that they will release regular updates for the game until the game shuts shop in January next year.
