Genshin Impact has made $3.7 billion in revenue from mobile in the first two years

The action RPG game continues to soar high!

Genshin Impact was first released two years ago on September 28, 2020, for App Store and Google Play. Since its release, the game has taken the world by storm and has been hailed by critics and gamers worldwide. According to a report by Sensor Tower Store Genshin Impact has grossed $3.7 billion. All this revenue has been generated from microtransactions done by players worldwide on mobile.

Ahead of its second anniversary this week, Genshin Impact has become the third largest mobile game in terms of revenue earned through player spending. The top two spots are filled by Tencent’s blockbuster games Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile. The RPG from HoYoverse is the second largest mobile game in terms of player spending.

Although this statistic is from outside of China where the game has earned $2.5 billion from the App Store and Google Play. Internationally the game is placed above Candy Crush Saga which is at number three and below Roblox which is at number one.

The game is showing no signs of slowing down

The mobile gaming industry which was growing enormously since 2018 saw a decline for the first time in Q1 2022. The global mobile games market revenue fell by approximately 5 percent and stood at a little over $21 billion. This trend continued in the second quarter of 2022 and revenue decreased another 7 percent and stood at nearly $20 billion.

During the recession in both Q1 and Q2, Genshin Impact’s player spending increased by 16 percent Y/Y in Q1 to $556 million and in Q2 the revenue surged by 28 percent Y/Y to $413.5 billion. However, according to the latest developments, the game’s revenue will fall Y/Y in Q3. 

The mobile version of Genshin Impact is ruling the market in China. Over there the game ranks number one in terms of player spending. In the first two years, the game generated $1.2 billion in revenue on iOS alone.

China generated the largest revenue for the game with about 33 percent coming from the country. The game is placed number two in Japan with 24 percent of its revenue coming from there while 17 percent of its revenue came from the United States.

In China, App Store users contributed most of its global revenue with 68 percent of the revenue coming from there. Google Play users contributed about 32 percent. Outside of the Chinese market, Google Play users accounted for 48 percent of player spending, while 52 percent of the spending was done by App Store.
