Google is reportedly moving away from the Google Stadia consumer platform and is in talks with several companies to provide them with a framework for streaming video games. And as the first step of this process, the service has now been rebranded as Google Stream.
According to Business Insider, Google is apparently working on white label deals with Bungie to power their streaming service. Added to this, they have also joined hands with Capcom to set up demos of their Resident Evil games on their website and Peloton, a fitness company, to provide games for their fitness bikes.
Moreover, they did have a successful deal with AT&T in which players could stream and play Batman: Arkham Knight through their web browsers. They also ran closed demos last year with Peloton for their game called Lanebreak.

After Stadia’s in-house game development studio was shut down, the focus was basically to set up a “content flywheel”. This means that instead of signing deals with AAA studios or exclusives, costs would be reduced by banking on independent titles and pre-existing deals for new games.
“With 200+ titles currently available, we expect to have another 100+ games added to the platform this year, and currently have 50 games available to claim in Stadia Pro” said Patrick Seybold, a spokesperson for Google.
While we won’t be commenting on any rumors or speculation regarding other industry partners, we are still focused on bringing great games to Stadia in 2022.

These new developments seem to contradict what Stadia set out to do, which was to bring AAA games to players without the need for powerful hardware. It seems that this idea of theirs wasn’t profitable enough as not enough people showed interest and that led to the unveiling of Google Stream, which will use the resources Google has set up for setting up backend services for other companies.
