Japanese Developer and Publisher SEGA are eyeing the release of both the Japanese and Global versions of their action RPG Persona 5: The Phantom X. This was revealed in SEGA’s annual revenue report for the Fiscal Year FY2024/3 where they have mentioned “considering” this prospect.
UPDATE NOTES
As of September 26, 2024: ATLUS has confirmed the Japan launch during the Tokyo Game Show. The game is also aiming for a closed beta test before the official launch in Japan.
Persona 5: The Phantom X has already seen launches in China, Taiwan, and Korea
Persona 5: Phantom of the Night, or P5: The Phantom X, is an urban adventure JRPG crafted by Perfect World Games’ Black Feather Studio in the critically acclaimed Persona series of games, officially authorized by SEGA with supervision from ATLUS.
First announced in March of 2023, the game was released on April 12 in China as an open beta, followed by launches in Taiwan and South Korea on April 18, 2024. The game brings an immersive gaming experience thanks to an original story-based narrative. You play as a high school student named Wonder in a vibrant campus city who navigates between school life and a parallel world called the Metaverse.
The gameplay itself looks a lot like Persona 5, but it’s been simplified for mobile devices. Though there isn’t any concrete word on how it’s doing there, SEGA’s considering expanding it worldwide which aligns with their intention to reach a broader audience, so it’s probably raking in the cash since they have also mentioned it as “starting off as expected” in their annual report.
Anyway, I will be letting you know the details in this space once the official announcement of a global or Japan launch of Persona 5: The Phantom X is out until then stay tuned for updates.
