The card-collecting RPG Harry Potter Magic Awakened has reportedly earned a figure of $3.1 million in revenue while accumulating 3.5 million downloads in the first three weeks of global release. However, the data shows that the game is experiencing a decline in downloads, posing a significant concern for the game’s performance in the upcoming weeks.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened had a healthy first week before the decline in revenue and downloads
Part of the four games announced at the NetEase Annual Product Launch 2020, the game opened global pre-registrations in February 2022 after a launch in China a year before. However, the release came after a long time, with Harry Potter: Magic Awakened getting a global launch on the 27th of June, completing a three-week run recently.
The game opened to favorable reviews and the data is a reflection of that. According to AppMagic data, there has been a good start on the day of launch, with the downloads touching the 600,000 mark on the day of release. The revenue didn’t fall short either, closing on a $250k margin. Until 2nd July, the margins are really appreciable before the decline.
As one expects, it is natural that the initial rush of players will decrease as time goes on, and the case is the same for the RPG. The game noticed a slight dip in the 2nd week run in terms of revenue, but the concerning trend lies in the rapid decrease in downloads, as illustrated by the graph. From 5th July, the game didn’t touch the 50,000 mark of daily downloads, with the revenue flow, however, managing to maintain a better rate up to now.
With the Harry Potter brand on its card, it is no lie that the performance of the game was more than expected from what numbers came out. However, these numbers are no where close to being bad, but the slight worry of the dipping downloads is certainly a thought the makers will be worried about.
