The miHoYo Legal Department has announced that it has secured a final legal victory in its defamation lawsuit against content creator Li, better known online as Fanshu Jianshangjia. According to the company, the court ruled in HoYoverse’s favor and ordered the blogger to pay ¥500,000 (around $69,700) in damages while also issuing public apologies across multiple social media platforms.
Court finds the creator’s content exceeded fair criticism
According to HoYoverse, Li operated accounts across platforms such as Bilibili, Douyin, Kuaishou, and Xiaohongshu, where he regularly posted content related to their games, including Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. The studio alleged that the creator frequently used insulting language toward the games and their players while publishing misleading reviews and commentary.

So, the court immediately determined that the videos were not created for ordinary game talks, news reporting, or public interest purposes. Instead, they found that the content was commercially motivated and designed to attract attention through controversy, unfair comparisons, and negative commentary that could influence fans’ perceptions and encourage them to leave or switch games.
Moreover, taking into account various factors such as the scale of the alleged infringement, the impact on HoYoverse’ s reputation, and the creator’s level of responsibility, the court ordered Li to make a public apology across several social platforms and pay the full compensation sought by HoYoverse. The good news is that Li has already published the required apology statements.
HoYoverse says it will continue protecting players and its games
Now, HoYoverse stated that they “cherish every bit of love and trust that players invest in the game,” and they do not support “any behavior that smears, spreads rumors, or insults players.” They also strongly oppose attempts to generate profit through this negative traffic, so their efforts included complaints, reports, legal action, and police involvement to tackle the problem.
In their closing statement, HoYoverse said they will continue pursuing “legal action against any illegal acts involving insults, defamation, infringement of player rights, or damage to the game and company’s reputation.” Personally, I believe this case serves as another reminder that while criticism and discussion are always welcome, one shouldn’t cross the line into unlawful conduct and direct reputational harm for profit.
