IBM has reportedly won the patent infringement lawsuit against popular mobile game developer, Zynga, which it sued back in 2022. Two years ago, IBM sued Zynga for violating its patent rights by misusing its “foundational” internet technology.

Zynga has denied any such violations on their part

In 2022, tech giant IBM claimed that the Farmville title creator was misusing their foundational web technology, including data capture and analytics. Both IBM and Zynga had reportedly been negotiating for a license since 2014, but those negotiations were not fruitful.

IBM has convinced a federal jury in Delaware that mobile game developer, Zynga has infringed their web-based communication patents with its massive mobile game title, Farmville as well as other games. Zynga now owes IBM $44.9 million in damages as IBM won the lawsuit against them.

Zynga has denied IBM’s allegations against them and has argued that the patents are invalid. Zynga Spokesperson, Alan Lewis told Reuters on Monday that the company was disappointed with the jury’s verdict and mentioned that Zynga along with its owner Take-Two Interactive, plans on appealing.

An IBM Spokesperson on Monday said that the company was very content with the verdict. Earlier this year, IBM also settled a lawsuit with Japanese e-commerce and tech company, Rakuten for an undisclosed amount of money.
