KRAFTON eyes PUBG Universe expansion with a new Mobile title and 3 PC and Console titles

It is shooters all around!

Story Highlights
  • KRAFTON is developing four titles tied into PUBG Universe, each targeting different platforms and gameplay styles.
  • The only mobile game in development is a hybrid casual title aimed at younger audiences.
  • Mobile was KRAFTON’s highest-earning platform, with KRW 1,689.8 billion in revenue for 2024.

It is no hidden fact that whenever you ask someone to name a battle royale game on mobile, then surely PUBG Mobile will be a pick of many. The game has garnered so many fans since its debut that it is hard to replicate the massive success of the title. However, the makers KRAFTON looking to bank on this to widen this player base, hence have four new titles under development based on the PUBG Universe.

KRAFTON recently shared its FY2024 and 4Q24 Earnings results, which touched on the next five years of the franchise IP of the company. From the details shared, right now, there are four different projects in development, each targeting a specific style of gameplay and platform.

The only mobile game in development is a hybrid casual title aimed at younger audiences

First up is Black Budget, an extraction shooter for PC. Then there’s Blindspot (ARC), a top-down tactical shooter, also for PC. For console players, Valor is in the works as a battle royale. For us mobile players, there’s an unannounced project labeled as hybrid casual.

Now, the mobile project is going to be quite different from KRAFTON’s usual PUBG-style shooters. The makers aim this at a next-gen younger audience, offering a more relaxed and approachable style of play. From what I’m expecting, it will likely mix simple, easy-to-pick-up gameplay with deeper mechanics.

I’m pretty confused why Mobile, despite being the highest revenue earner platform for KRAFTON is getting only one game. Last year in 2024, KRAFTON’s mobile revenue saw solid growth compared to the previous year. It reached KRW 1,689.8 billion ($1.16 billion), a 35.7% increase from 2023. A clearer vision for the new project could have built more excitement, but at the end of the day, the company likely has its strategy in mind.

KRAFTON has been actively trying to expand the PUBG Universe

KRAFTON has been working on expanding the PUBG Universe for years, but not everything they announced has made it to players. Back in 2021, alongside New State, they had bigger plans, including webtoons, short animations, and even a survival-horror spinoff, The Callisto Protocol, tied into the PUBG lore. There was also talk of a PUBG Cowboy project with an animated series and a TV show.

Other noticeable information from the report included the company’s focus on making big investments as the owner of the IP to create a long-lasting and well-loved franchise. They also aim to provide enjoyable experiences for players across PUBG on PC, consoles, and mobile devices. As part of Scale-up the Creative, the development of Palworld Mobile is part of its growth strategy.
