Need For Speed Mobile is all set to bring high-adrenaline racing action to mobile soon, and Patrick Honnoraty, the Lead Producer, and John Stanley, the Creative Director for Need for Speed at Criterion Games were recently featured in an interview to discuss NFS Mobile, covering its core features, their vision of the title as a benchmark, and much more.
The popular features from the franchise will be appearing on the mobile version of Need For Speed
If I say Criterion Games is one of the reasons to boost the racing genre of games, then I wouldn’t be wrong. Now under the helm of Electronic Arts, thanks to their Burnout and Need For Speed franchises, we can get some exciting racing action as many developers try to replicate the franchises’ success, and hence, more new games.
In the interview, they spoke about the core features of the game. Some of the core features of Need for Speed are the cars, the unique elements of consequence as decisions make a difference, customization, and others. This is seen in the progression systems, cop systems, and heat systems, just like how we have seen in the original franchise.
Customization is another standout feature. No other racing game does customization like Need for Speed. The game draws inspiration from car culture, and Need for Speed Mobile offers a chance to learn and try new things with the community.
The creative director also drops insights on the art style where the new VFX enhances the game feel, letting players know when they’re performing actions like near misses or boosting.
While setting a new benchmark, Need For Speed Mobile will move towards connecting players
Patrik mentions that mobile racing games are highly accessible since nearly everyone owns a mobile phone, which is not always true with PC and console gaming.
He adds, “We think Need for Speed Mobile will set a new benchmark for racing games in the mobile domain as it brings together a lot of components we have in the HD game and brings it to a new audience, it broadens the audience and the market.”
Concluding the interview, Patrick mentioned that the future of the industry, especially racing games, is moving toward a more social space where games become platforms for players to connect and build communities.
While these are already appearing in NFS Mobile, he believes it extends the Need for Speed brand well. John mentioned his excitement about Tencent’s TiMi Studios (J1 Studio) bringing this experience to mobile and hopes it provides a truly exhilarating sense of freedom.
Need For Speed Mobile’s global launch date is still unknown as of now. The game is currently open to pre-register for Android and iOS in select regions.
