The game has been developed by the Japan-based game developer Cyberstep which has developed many online video games like Cosmic Break and Dawn of the Breakers. Onigiri HEROES is the mobile version of the popular video game Onigiri which was available since 2013 for PC and consoles. The world of Onigiri HEROES is filled with monsters, Japanese-style buildings set in places like Onigashima, Sekigahara, Kyoto, and Edo.

Onigiri HEROES is an easy-to-play game with one attack button and multiple skill buttons. The game has newly implemented guard and evasion features to help players during the battle. The Onigiri heroes will have various partners to fight alongside them.
The partners can be famous Japanese generals like Miyamoto Mushashi and even unique characters like Ifrit and Gargoyle. Later, some of the characters can even become controllable with unique fighting styles.
The game includes 8 different weapons like Swords, Bows, Twin blades, Lances, Staves, Wands, Axes, and Oodachi with different fighting styles. The players can equip 5 customizable skills in a single weapon. The player can collect sake to provide limited-time buffs to the player character.
