PLAYSTUDIOS acquires the right to reimagine and introduce the decade old puzzle game

PLAYSTUDIOS, a Las Vegas-based award-winning casual games developer has announced that they have officially acquired the rights to develop the iconic Tetris franchise for mobile devices. The company has acquired multi-title mobile rights, which excludes China, for the Tetris games in partnership with the Tetris Company and N3TWORK.

The new mobile version of Tetris was introduced in early 2020 by N3TWORK, generating approximately 30 million downloads and has millions of active users. PLAYSTUDIOS is well-known for its unique marketing approach for their casual casino games, i.e. playAWARDS loyalty platform. It is being said that the company will continue with the current Tetris product while reimagining and publishing a newer version of the game which will feature the company’s playAWARDS loyalty platform. 

Tetris: a multi-generational game

“For nearly 40 years, Tetris has appealed to a broad, multi-generational audience,” says PLAYSTUDIOS founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Pascal.

The first Tetris game came into existence in 1984, created by software engineer Alexey Pajitnov and since then it has become a billion-dollar brand. Even after more than 35 years, the Tetris continues to be loved globally. Billions of Tetris games are played online every year and over 590 million downloads have been done to date. PLAYSTUDIOS just has to dive into the rich collection of Tetris games that will add new features and innovate new adaptations to Tetris.

The design and concept of the new Tetris mobile game will be inspired by the leading casual game formats and new features will lead the game into a new era. This new version of Tetris will be incorporated with the PLAYSTUDIOS playAWARDS loyalty platform, a system that will allow the user to redeem points earned in the game at real-world locations like MGM casinos.
