As the year is coming to a close, the producer of Pokémon UNITE, Yuki Gabe has addressed the game’s community yet again regarding the game’s changes from 2024. The Producer’s letter as it has been termed makes it clear how the game will face balance updates right from the start of next year. Let’s take a quick peek into what she had to say in her heartfelt message to the fans
Introducing EX Licenses, a brand new type of Pokémon’s Unite licenses
EX licenses are a new group of Pokémon’s Unite licenses, from the already existing list. While it won’t change the power level of the specific Pokémon, it will allow users to enact special regulations in ranked matches where one or more Master-rank players are participating.
The Ex Licences would be coming to the game post the 5th December update. The following Pokémon will be having EX licenses:
- Zacian
- Mewtwo (X)
- Mewtwo (Y)
”In Ranked Season 17 starting on January 16, 2024, the use of EX licenses (including the 3 Pokémon listed above) in each team will be prohibited. Regulations will change for each series and will be announced before the start of the series. You will be able to play as usual in Unite Battles other than ranked matches.”, the letter from Yuki Gabe further said.
Draft Pick battles to return in Ranked Matches from Season 18
Draft Pick battles are set to make a comeback to Pokémon UNITE, starting on February 27, 2024, with the brand new Ranked Season 18. Draft pick battles will now allow both teams to vote on a Pokémon to ban from play. After both teams select a Pokémon to ban, players then take turns choosing their Pokémon without choosing any Pokémon more than once, regardless of which team has chosen it. The Draft Pick battle had been introduced earlier as well as an experimental game mode but is now set to return as a permanent mode.

“These draft pick battles will be the same that are used in tournaments leading up to the Pokémon World Championships, but we are considering ways to change the format to better suit ranked matches—without necessarily adhering to the same rules. Also, while we are targeting Master-rank players, we are still considering the affected ranks and format of this temporary addition.”, the Producer added.
Two new Held and Battle Items will be introduced this month
On December 5, 2023, two new held items will be available in the in-game shop:
- Charging Charm
- Resonant Guard
More details about these Pokémon UNITE held items will be revealed soon in the upcoming days.
